Cartoon Network Hack (April 25, 2019-present)[]
Cartoon Network website is hacked – Displays Arabic memes and Brazilian male strippers. The network’s sites have been hacked at least in 16 regions across the world.
According to ZDNet, two Brazilian hackers have carried out the hack whose names it has not disclosed in order to discourage such acts carried out to seek attention from the web media.
The hackers managed to get access to the Cartoon Network website management platform and switch the video sources to files of their desired choice. They replaced videos of popular cartoon shows with videos of Arabic memes, Brazilian hip-hop songs, slideshows of various memes and funny images, and videos of Ricardo Milos, a well-known Brazilian male stripper who has become an internet meme.
The hack was executed on April 25 and the defaced videos were on Cartoon Network websites for three days in April 28 when the channel was notified about the incident. The network has removed all the defaced videos from its site, while the work of restoring the original content is in progress.
The hackers managed to swap the videos on Cartoon Network portal across the world like the UK, Hungary, Romania, Germany, Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, the Africa region, and the Arabic region.
Cartoon Network UK and Russia region have officially accepted that the hack took place in public statements. While the hackers have claimed to have had access to the Cartoon Network Asia and Pacific regional website but this was never confirmed.
The company spokesperson did not comment when asked if the hackers had full access to the Cartoon Network web portals.
