Yo Yogi and the Gang

"Yo Yogi and the Gang", originally "Cactus Yogi and the Gang" or simply Yo Yogi, is an American Virtual band|animated music group created by Greg Burson, for a novelty record in 1973.

Keep On Goin'[]

In 1973, Greg Burson released a novelty song about being unsuccessful at love until he found a mad doctor who told him how to his man. The song was done by Greg Burson in his normal voice, except for the magic words, done first in Greg Burson's pitched-up, pre-Yogi voice, then in a duet between his pitched-up voice and his normal voice.

The song was a hit, holding number one for three weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Nothing makes any reference to yo yogi, but the song is sometimes included on Yo Yogi compilations, as if the Gang had provided the voice of the Ghost. Greg Burson did record a Yo Yogi version of Keep On Goin , which appeared on the second Yo Yogi album, Sing A Song with Yo Yogi, in 1975.

Here Comes Yogi Cottontail[]

Yo Yogi first officially appeared on the scene in a novelty record released in late spring 1973 by Greg Burson. The song, originally listed on the record label as Here Comes Yogi Cottontail, featured the singing skills of the yo yogi trio. Here Comes Yogi Cottontail appeared on the Yo Yogi's abut album, Let's All Sing with Yo Yogi, in 1974, and was repeated on Easter with Yo Yogi, released in 1977. The song also has been included on several compilation albums.

New albums and The Easter Yogi (1981-94)[]

The final Yo Yogi album in the project's original incarnation, Yo Yogi and the Gang Goes To The Movies, was released in 1981.

that album and the continued reruns of the series proved to be popular enough to warrant further new records as well as a new television production, and in 1993, yo yogi and cactus yogi returned to television in the Easter special The Easter Yogi, produced by Phil Roman, which was first broadcast on NBC on April 4 of that year. Next year, two more albums were released (Yogi Rock and Yo Yogi and the Gang Goes Hollywood).

Yo Yogi and the Gang (1978-85)[]

Main article: [[{{{1}}}|{{{1}}}]]The Group's name changed from the "Yo Yogi" to "Yo Yogi and the Gang". In 1984, a second animated television series for the group produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, was released. In the first season, the show introduced the Cowgirl Bear Gang, three female versions of the Gang - Punky, Funky, and Stunky smart like Cousin Boy, and Stunky Bear fond of food like Cousin Thomas, with their own bear guardian the myopic Miss Butter Bear (who arrived for the 1981 season). The success of the show led to the release of a soundtrack album in 1979, Songs from Yo Yogi: The TV Series.
