“ | See, I'm the child of a witch and an android. I'm their wish come true. Bigger than magic, living information, retro-reincarnated in human form. Now, my brother? He'd give you a physical fight. He'd warp time and space to punch you fifty times a second. But when I warp time and space... I use my words. And I say I'm a bigger deal in this reality than you are. Now sit tight, you little pest... While we clean up the mess you made. | „ |
~ Wiccan |
Wiccan (William "Billy" Kaplan-Altman) is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character has been depicted as a member of the Young Avengers, a team of teenage superheroes, as well as Strikeforce and New Avengers. Created by writer Allan Heinberg and artist Jim Cheung, the character first appeared in Young Avengers #1 (April 2005). The character's appearance is patterned on that of two prominent Marvel superheroes, Thor and Scarlet Witch (Wiccan's mother), both of whom are members of the Avengers. Like the Scarlet Witch, Wiccan possesses powerful magical abilities which make him a key member of his superhero team.
Recruited to the Young Avengers by Iron Lad, Wiccan's story includes the discovery that he and fellow teen hero Speed are in fact long-lost twin brothers, and that the pair are reincarnations of the sons of Scarlet Witch and her husband Vision, Billy reincarnated from William Maximoff. Significant storylines for the character include his and his brother's search for their original mother, learning to master his powers, and an ongoing relationship with his teammate (later husband) Hulkling.
Alongside his permanent role as a member of the Young Avengers, Wiccan has also been a member of Avengers Idea Mechanics, Strikeforce, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Avengers. He is known for being a prominent gay character in the Marvel Comics.
An illusory Billy Maximoff appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Disney+ miniseries WandaVision (2021), played by Baylen Bielitz and Julian Hilliard, with Hilliard returning as a human version of Billy from an alternate reality in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). His reincarnation, Billy Kaplan, appears in the miniseries Agatha All Along (2024), where he is played by Joe Locke.

- Billy Kaplan / Wiccan appears as a main character in Marvel's Superhero Adventures: Infinity War, voiced by Sean Maher. A friend of Spider-Woman and Jackpot, he is also a new member of the Avengers, who joined sometime after the battle against the Regent's army of the Negative Zone's insects. He was also offered membership in the Thunderbolts by Tyler Hayward, but he rejected it out protest against using metahumans (heroes and villains alike) as living weapons.
- Billy Kaplan appears in Marvel: All New, All Different Chronicles and its Disney+-exclusive spin-off All New, All Different Mutants, voiced in both by Neil Patrick Harris. This version is Wanda Maximoff's cousin who, after receiving blood-transfusion from his cousin to save his life, developed the abilities of telekinesis, teleportation hole projection and limited control over reality itself. Seeking control over his powers, Billy was taken in by Wanda to be trained by Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong as one of the Masters of the Mystic Arts. Unlike most Marvel-related media, Billy is not addressed to by the alias of Wiccan, as he (like Wanda) keeps demanding others not to give him any superhero codenames and just call him by his real name.
- Wiccan is a DLC playable character in Marvel Superhero Adventures: Intergalactic Grand Prix, voiced by A. J. Locascio. He is playable alongside Hulkling, whose karts are: Elton's Pride (a half green, half blue race car resembling a 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster with a rainbow in the rear) which Hulkling drives, and the Uniter (a blue hover car with the colors of Wiccan's costume and green wings around the cockpit) which Wiccan controls.
