War of the Toons is a 2030 animated action adventure science fantasy comedy film written and directed by Mamoru Hosoda, produced by New Line Cinema, Village Roadshow Pictures, RatPac-Dune Entertainment and Studio Chizu and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is a parody of and tribute to animated movies and cartoons of each era and demographic and stars Tom Holland, Miya Cech, Levi Miller, Ryan Reynolds, Taika Waititi, Mena Massoud, Robert Pattinson, Will Forte, Damon Herriman, Bruce Campbell, Ben Schwartz, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Kevin Hart, Todd Haberkorn, Idris Elba, Kevin Spacey and Sharlto Copley. The film follows Aaron Stentz, an alcoholic animator who is transported to a universe where cartoon characters from different shows and movies coexist and must prevent an omnicidal cartoon character from destroying all of animation.

The film received widespread acclaim for its animation, visuals, humor, characters, voice acting performances (particularly Holland, Cech, Miller and Pattinson), premise, story, screenplay, villain, themes, John Powell's musical score, action sequences, meta-commentary, ending and tribute to the greatest animators of the animation industry. The film was also a commercial success, grossing $2 billion on a production budget of $175 million, becoming the first anime film to cross the billion dollar mark. The film won ten Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Animated Feature, Best Actor for Holland, Best Actress for Cech, Best Supporting Actor for Pattinson, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing and Best Sound, becoming the fourth anime film to win an Academy Award after Ava 2 (2027) and Spirited Away (2001) and the first animated film in history to win the five major Academy Awards.

Plot[]

Cast[]

Tom Holland as Aaron Stentz, an alcoholic Emmy-winning animator and co-creator of the adult-animated science fiction comedy series Drone Life with his longtime friend Jason Avery and the animated children's series Flogar. Aaron lost his six-year-old daughter Chloe in a car accident, which resulted in his current behavior and led him to create Flogar. He soon becomes involved in a war to save the Tooniverse.

Miya Cech as Luna, a little shape-shifting cartoon alien girl who is unaware she is the main character of Aaron and Jason's animated children's series Flogar. Throughout the course of the film, she loses her friends and home, has to fight and kill to survive, and forms a father-daughter relationship with Aaron. It is revealed throughout the film that Aaron created Luna out of grief as a representation of Chloe.

Levi Miller as Jason Avery, Aaron's longtime best friend and co-creator of Drone Life.

Ryan Reynolds as Garrett, the main character in Aaron and Jason's adult-animated science fiction comedy series Drone Life who becomes a member of the ADA (Animation Defense Agency).

Taika Waititi as Terrence, a claymation figure who is a high-ranking member of the ADA.

Mena Massoud as Mekhai Abdallah

Robert Pattinson as Matthew Leonetti, An overlord seeking revenge on mankind after his show, "Stick City," was canceled. He aims to destroy or enslave animated worlds and communicates with his creator, Gerald Willis, to execute his evil plan.

Will Forte as Gerald Willis, Matthew's creator and leader of the Stick Order doomsday cult.
