the currently untitled The Exorcist project is an upcoming supernatural horror film written by Gary Dauberman and Chase Palmer with a story by Dauberman and Jeremy Slater, it is based on William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel The Exorcist and its 1983 sequel Legion, it is also a direct sequel to the 1973 adapation directed by William Friedkin and the sixth installment of the The Exorcist film series. The film stars Linda Blair reprising her role as Regan MacNeil. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film worldwide.


  • Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil, a victim of demonic possession in 1973 at the hands of the Assyrian demon Pazuzu, struggling with repressed memories of those events.
  • Brad Dourif as James Venamun/The "Gemini Killer", a deceased serial killer who teamed up with Pazuzu to possess Karras and commit sadistic crimes.
  • Max von Sydow as Father Lankester Merrin (Through archival footage and CGI), a veteran priest and exorcist who died in 1973 during Regan's exorcism, he first encountered Pazuzu in Africa.
  • Jason Miller as Father/Dr. Damien Karras, S.J./Patient X (Through archival footage and CGI), a troubled priest and former psychiatric counselor who assisted Merrin in Regan's exorcism and sacrified himself to save her after Pazuzu took control of his body.

Alan Maxson will provide motion capture for Pazuzu.



Another Exorcist film which also adapts the 1983 sequel novel Legion will take place 50 years after the events of the 1973 film, which resolves around Regan as a mother and grandmother going through repressed trauma fighting to save her possessed grandson from a vengful Pazuzu who has evolved, while a police lieutenant investigating a series of demonic homicides. Vertigos' Roy Lee and Morgan Creeks' James Robinson will produce the film, executive producers include Linda Blair, William Friedkin (star and director of the 1973 film), Doug Davison, Brian Robinson and David C. Robinson, the script will be written by Gary Dauberman and Chase Palmer (writers of It Chapter One), like the original film it will R-Rated using a much darker, scarier, more eerie tone, but less nasty as it was in 1973. There are several working titles under consideration The Exorcist: The Power of Christ, The Last Exorcism, The Last Exorcist and Pazuzu's Revenge. The famous quote The power of Christ compels you! will be used along with references and easter eggs from the entire film series will series will be featured.


A list of directors were approached to helm the film including Jordan Peele who declined due to his engagement with production of Poltergeist: Shadowland, Mike Flanagan, Michael Chaves, James Wan, Andy Muschietti, David F. Sandberg and Corin Hardy.


Blair will reprise her role as Regan MacNeil from the 1973 film and its 1977 sequel. Cast member from previous sequel as well as the prequels will have either cameos or new roles. Max von Sydow and Jason Miller will return as Father/Dr. Damien Karras, S.J. / Patient X and Father Lankester Merrin through archival footage and CGI with the use of motion capture and voice alteration.

Pazuzu's design

Pazuzu will be given an evolved modernized designed which will be tackled by Ehsan Bigloo like before it will be depicted as a combination of animal and human parts with two hands and body of a man with dragon scales as a new addition, the head of a lionor dog, eagle-like taloned feet, two pairs of wings, a scorpion's tail, and a serpentine penis. Alan Maxson will perform motion capture for the character.


Principle photography will commence in two locations Los Angeles, California in 777 Tower highrise and Georgetown the same area used to shoot the 1973 with usage of the iconic stairway at the corner of Prospect St and 36th St NW, filming for the exorcism and final confrontation will be housed in Silvercup Studios and Georgetown Behavioral Hospital will be used the mental hospital housing patient x crew will be taking every precaution anybody dies on or off set.
