Totally Teen is an American live-action mock-reality comedy television series created for Nickelodeon, which aired from June 27, 2023 to November 21, 2033, being Nickelodeon's longest running live action show. Billed as Nickelodeon’s satirical answer to MTV’s reality programming, the show functions as a parody of the reality TV genre, focusing on the behind-the-scenes antics of a fictional reality series—also titled Totally Teen. It is often described as Nickelodeon’s most self-aware and sarcastic production to date, with critics calling it a “glitter-covered middle finger to influencer culture and modern teen fame.”

The show was developed as a semi-spinoff of the 2019 revival of All That, featuring many of that show’s cast members in new, exaggerated roles. As of October 2025, Totally Teen is currently airing its third season, maintaining its reputation as one of Nickelodeon’s highest-rated live-action shows and officially promoted by the network as “TV’s #1 Kids Comedy.”

Despite being marketed toward a tween and teen demographic, Totally Teen has gained a sizable young adult following due to its sharp humor, pop culture references, and willingness to push Nickelodeon’s usual content boundaries. The show is frequently noted for its mature innuendo, self-referential writing, and heavy use of satire—often lampooning the entertainment industry, social media trends, and the network itself. While praised for its cleverness and layered humor, it has also stirred controversy from parents’ groups who claim the show is “too knowing” and “barely appropriate for Nickelodeon.”

Premise[]

Totally Teen follows the cast of a fictional reality show, exploring both their on-screen personas and off-camera antics. The series blends traditional sitcom structure with mockumentary-style interviews, behind-the-scenes drama, and absurdist humor. The characters often break the fourth wall, comment on the show’s production, or satirize network executives and current media trends, as well as making numerous jokes at the expense of the show and the network itself. The show frequently references other Nickelodeon shows as comedic fan service, many of them in blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments, and, whilst never actually shown on screen, are implied to exist off screen, and have interacted with the cast before

Characters[]

  • Chaz Thompson (played by Troy McRainey): Chaz is the tactical brain of the group, constantly orchestrating elaborate schemes to win challenges on the fictional reality show. Calm, calculating, and surprisingly empathetic, he often mediates conflicts between other cast members. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the show’s “rules” but approaches each situation with humor rather than bitterness. Chaz secretly enjoys mentoring new castmates, seeing the show as a game of wits rather than status.
  • Kayla Starling (played by Mila Kensington): Kayla is a natural optimist who believes that every challenge and drama on the show is an opportunity for creativity. She often invents outlandish mini-competitions for the group, turning mundane tasks into over-the-top spectacles. Unlike her actor’s controlled persona, Kayla is impulsive, whimsical, and prone to laughing at her own mistakes. She has a mysterious fascination with the show’s props and background sets, often treating them as storytelling tools.
  • Milo Sparks (played by Declan Futz): Milo is a problem solver and inventor on the reality show, designing bizarre gadgets and “game hacks” to give the team an edge. While technically brilliant, he is socially awkward in unpredictable ways and thrives on spontaneous chaos, often creating challenges nobody asked for. He tends to clash with authority figures, not out of resentment, but sheer curiosity, constantly pushing boundaries to see what will happen.
  • Ashley-Ashley (played by Ashley-Ashley Ashford): Ashley-Ashley interprets every moment of the reality show as part of a larger, cosmic narrative. She tracks patterns between cast interactions, predicting alliances and betrayals with near-uncanny accuracy. She doesn’t care about the spotlight; instead, she manipulates the show’s social dynamics for amusement and philosophical exploration. Her humor is abstract and unpredictable, leaving others unsure if she’s joking or speaking in metaphors.
  • Tiffany Madison (played by Riley-Jane Truffaut): Tiffany is the group’s emotional barometer, whose reactions and mood swings unintentionally drive much of the reality show’s drama. She experiences everything intensely, from challenges to trivial disagreements, and her heightened sensitivity often leads to unexpected alliances or conflicts. Tiffany is deeply creative, often rewriting scripts and challenges on the fly to match her vision of “the perfect moment.”
  • Kenny "K-Flame" Thomas (played by Kenny Thompson): Kenny is the show’s unofficial fact-checker and trend predictor, constantly analyzing other cast members’ behavior to anticipate their next moves. Despite his intense focus, he is strangely calm and unflappable in crises, often offering deadpan commentary on absurd situations. He has a subtle, dry wit that contrasts with the chaos around him, making him the secret favorite of production.
  • Zach McAllister – (played by Brayden-Tate Knoxley): Zach thrives on doing the opposite of what is expected on the show, often turning challenges upside down with surprising creativity. He loves taking risks, not for recognition, but for the thrill of invention, turning simple competitions into elaborate stunts. Zach is highly collaborative but stubbornly refuses to follow standard strategies, making him unpredictable yet indispensable.
  • Mallory "The Mallrat" Lehman (played by Skylynn Dupree): Mallory is obsessed with designing the perfect environment for the show’s challenges, often rearranging sets and props to create entirely new “worlds” for her fellow cast members to explore. Her imagination borders on surrealism, blending color, sound, and movement in ways that confuse and delight everyone else. She approaches the show as a living art installation rather than a game.
  • Ty Ty Johnson (played by Ty Ty Maxfield): Ty Ty is naturally charismatic and is often thrust into leadership roles, despite his self-doubt. He tries to keep the group organized and the game fair, but his attempts usually devolve into absurdly optimistic pep talks and half-baked plans. Ty Ty is a loyal friend, always prioritizing the team’s morale over winning, making him the heart of the ensemble.
  • Veronica Blake (played by Veronica West): Veronica is athletic, daring, and fiercely competitive, often taking the most physically demanding challenges on the show. Beyond her physical prowess, she has a subtle strategic mind, forming alliances and outmaneuvering opponents with careful foresight. She rarely speaks about her intentions, preferring actions to words, which makes her an enigmatic force within the group.
  • Nyx Ryder (played by Nixie Noir) Nyx constantly comments on the show’s absurdities, breaking narrative conventions and drawing attention to hidden “rules” of the reality world. She often manipulates scenarios to heighten tension or satire, blending performative commentary with genuine insight. Her presence makes viewers question the line between scripted events and spontaneous drama, adding a layer of self-awareness to the series.
