Timber’s Island is an American-Canadian live-action/puppet television series based on characters of Diddy Kong Racing created by Nintendo, Microsoft & Rare, produced by The Jim Henson Company collaborating with both Nintendo, Microsoft & Rare. It plans to air in 2027 on both Hulu & Cartoon Network. It is notable for its use of live puppets with CGI animated (and some live action) backgrounds, and in its first season, for refashioning characters and themes from the game Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo-Kazooie & Conker’s Pocket Tales and also adding new characters.

  • Captain Bonebeard (Voiced by Matt Vogel; Puppeteer: Matt Vogel) The bony, skeletal ghost of a pirate who lurks in the grottos of Timber’s Island, He has a ghostly pet macaw parrot named Polly McCrackers (portrayed by Joey Mazzarino)
  • Polly McCrackers (Voiced by Joey Mazzarino; Puppeteer: Joey Mazzarino) Bonebeard’s ghostly macaw parrot companion who copies parts of Bonebeard’s sentences. He also has a bit of a snarky tone, especially when correcting Bonebeard.
  • Captain Blubberbeard the Pirate (Voiced by Steve Whitmire; Puppeteer: Steve Whitmire) Another pirate, he is trying to steal the booty of Timber’s Island but is always thwarted by Timber and his friends. He has a pirate crew (portrayed by various puppeteers/actors) and a capuchin monkey named Cheeky Joe (portrayed by Ryan Dillon)
  • Cheeky Joe (Voiced by Ryan Dillon; Puppeteer: Ryan Dillon) The simian companion of Blubberbeard. He has a craving for bananas and mangoes. He is very hyperactive and energetic. He also gets very easily excited. He is also helpful in trying to steal the treasure of Timber’s Island.
  • Timber’s Mom (Voiced by Karen Prell; Puppeteer: Karen Prell)
  • Timber’s Dad (Voiced by Tyler Bunch; Puppeteer: Tyler Bunch)
  • Twinkles the Red Panda (Voiced by Jennifer Barnhart; Puppeteer: Jennifer Barnhart) A jolly, friendly, cute, plucky & sweet-as-honey red panda who loves to sing and dance ballet. She is strong-willed, gentle, confident, caring, kind and has a big imagination. She always wears her pink tutu everywhere she goes.
  • Bobo the Mandrilla Baboon (Voiced by Joey Mazzarino; Puppeteer: Joey Mazzarino) A funny, comedic Mandrilla/gorilla/baboon mix simian who likes to make jokes of any kind. He is full of witty puns and cheesy jokes as well as corny one-liners.
  • Sugarplum Selene (Voiced by Leslie Carrara-Rudolph; Puppeteer: Leslie Carrara-Rudolph) A fairy chinchilla who is a fairy-in-training with glistening tiny fairy wings, a magic wand and both sparkles and fairy dust in her fury and wings. Daughter of the Sugarplum Ferret (Wordplay on the Sugarplum Fairy) she “has her own point of view and is comfortable with the fact that she likes wearing a tutu dress or any other dress.”
  • XiaoPiao the Mini Panda (Voiced by Gedde Watanabe; Puppeteer: Gedde Watanabe) A dancing Blue-Spotted Mini Panda (just like the Mini Pandas from Donkey Kong Jungle Beat & New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat) that loves ballet. His voice is inspired by Horatio the Elephant from Sesame Street. XiaoPiao sometimes wears a tutu and would always wear a tutu in Season 3 up to Season 12 where he would only wear a tutu occasionally.

Human Characters on Timber’s Island[]

  • Captain Swigglebottom (Voiced by Bill Irwin) an explorer extraordinare (not a puppet also the first human in Timber’s Island) who comes to Timber’s Island to observe the wildlife and environment of the Island and it’s beauty. He is best friends with Timber and his friends and is always willing to give them some advice.
  • Professor Smartypants (Voiced by Daniel Coren) an intelligent and kooky scientist that creates and invents astounding, amazing and wonderful gadgets and gizmos for Timber and his friends. He is one of the humans to be on Timber’s Island.
  • Jill Greatell (Voiced by Alison Bartlett-O’Reilly) Inspired by Jane Goodall. One of the non-puppets on Timber’s Island. She started on the show as a nurse for Timber’s family and the Kongs, later became a veterinarian and is friends with Timber and his friends, she would also adopt a baby named Ubingi (portrayed by a baby actor from Africa) from Nairobi, Kenya.
  • Robbie Hattsford (Voiced by Weird Al Yankovic) A funny, lanky man fond of eccentric hats and works at the KobuBongo Store.
  • Tyler Johnson “T.J.” Encino (Voiced by Roscoe Orman) A nice African American man and a dutiful husband and steady provider, a well-liked and respected figure on the island. He lives in a beach house on Timber’s Island with his wife, Delilah (portrayed by Loretta Long), and their kids, Stevie, Dewey, Loretta & Kiki (portrayed by four unnamed child actors). Timber and his friends call him “Mr. Encino”.
  • The Appa-Zappa Pow-Wow-Yow Brothers (Voiced by Steve Burns, Donovan Patton and Joshua Dela Cruz) A pair of jungle brothers who were raised by apes when they were babies, they are inspired by both Tarzan and George of the Jungle. Jojo (portrayed by Steve Burns) is the eldest of the brothers and tries to keep his brothers out of trouble. Oogie-Boog (portrayed by Donovan Patton) is the middle brother, he constantly crashes into trees while swinging on vines when he isn’t looking. He is also scatterbrained and a bit of a klutz. Bongo (Portrayed by Joshua Dela Cruz) is the youngest of the brothers. He looks up to Jojo the most and tries to be like him.
  • Chlem T. Gardner (Voiced by Mark Hamill) A botanist working on the island. He likes to observe plant life and the many plants on Timber’s Island.
