Thomas & Friends: The Classic Collection is a US Blu-ray and DVD release of the British children's program(me), Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. The collection is available in both separate complete series, or complete season, sets and a bigger pack containing all fourteen Blu-rays and DVDs, a bonus disc featuring all thirteen completed episodes of the Jack and the Sodor Construction Company mini-series, and a book with information on the making of the show and the history of the Thomas franchise.

Similar to the remastered versions seen on the British DVDs and the American The Early Years DVD, each episode will receive all-new high-definition transfers derived from the original camera footage. The collection is comprised of the seven series of the show that were produced by Britt Allcroft and David Mitton.

Notes

  • Prior to series 8, Thomas was shot on 35mm film at a frame rate of 25 frames per second (which was normal for most shows and movies intended to be broadcast on UK (PAL) television). When the show was imported to the US to be shown on Shining Time Station, pulldown to interlaced 30/29.97fps was applied to the footage so it could also be broadcast on NTSC television. Since it would be impossible to convert the footage to progressive 24/23.97fps without any sort of noticeable distortion and progressive 25fps is not part of the Blu-ray specifications, each episode will be presented at interlaced 30fps (1080i on Blu-ray and 480i on DVD).
  • Each season will consist of two discs with two versions of 13 episodes each (both versions are presented in either 1080i or 480i) - one with the original UK title and dub (which can be heard in either 5.1 or stereo/matrix surround), and another with the US title and dub (which, depending on the season, can be heard in mono, stereo, or matrix surround).
  • The 5.1 remixes will utilize the centre channel for narration, the left and right channels for most music cues, all three front channels for on-screen sound effects and most directional/panning effects, and the surround channels for ambience, some panning effects, and reinforcement of some music cues.
    • Although the music scores for series' 1-3 were recorded in stereo, the final mixes were mono. The series' 2-3 sets will mark the first time the stereo scores for those seasons will be released to the public (most of series 1, minus "James and the Express", was remixed in stereo using the original score stems in 1998, series 4 was originally mixed in stereo, and series' 5-7 were mixed in matrixed Dolby Surround/Pro Logic).
