Plot[]
At the Tidmouth Sheds, the 8 members of the Steam Team are getting themselves ready for sleep after a long day of work. Percy is yawning and he dreams about pulling more goods trains. James thinks Sir Topham Hatt will tell them something important tomorrow while Gordon thinks the letter is about a new Steam Team shed for him. Gordon boasts about the letter and his new shed, then Percy says they haven't heard from Sir Topham Hatt in a long time, which Nia and Emily agree to. Emily believes they're going to stop pulling goods trains and freight trains.
Rebecca believes they will be put to work in the quarry for tomorrow, but Gordon rudely dismisses her. Emily tells Gordon off for being mean to Rebecca. As the other engines fall asleep, Thomas is the only one who notices the viewer and he greets them. He whispers to the viewer that tomorrow might be a special day for the engines on the Steam Team before he yawns mid sentence and falls asleep. In the morning, Sir Topham Hatt is in a rush to get to the engines on the Steam Team. At the Tidmouth Sheds, Thomas has woken up, only to find out that Percy, Gordon, Emily, James, Nia, and Rebecca have gone to work without him. Sir Topham Hatt soon arrives to Thomas. Percy, Gordon, Emily, James, Nia, and Rebecca aren't with Thomas, but before Sir Topham Hatt can say "confusion and delay" to Thomas, Thomas's attention shifts to his hat, noticing something under it. Sir Topham Hatt shows him a letter and that the letter "concerns his engines" before reading it aloud to Thomas, inquiring for a job in a theatre on Sodor. As such, Thomas is excited to try this new job, impersonating a conductor, and chuffs away in excitement to the theatre.
Thomas overhears some classical music coming from a radio and plans to start "the world's first engine orchestra" on Sodor. After working, Thomas recruits Percy, Gordon, Emily, James, and Nia as performers and orchestra members. The same goes for Rebecca, Edward, Toby, Duck, Oliver, Rheneas, Clarabel, Annie, Skarloey, Henry, the Troublesome Trucks, Ben, Rusty, Bill, Sir Handel, and Bertie the bus.
