The Transformers: The Road to 2005 is an animated feature film based on the original Transformers toyline. It was released in the United States on Friday, September 17th 2024 and is prequel like sequel to the original cartoon, both the 1986 film and third season.
The film's storyline follows the same continuity as the original Transformers cartoon. The story is roughly 5 years after the second season that took place in 1985, the Decepticons begin a new plan to return to cybertron, after learning Elita One has planned a counterattack on Shockwave, with Ultra Magnus, and others. Spike and Carly get married at some point in the film, several more autobot and decepticons show up in the film such as Ultra Magnus, Kup, Sky Lynx, Broadside, Octane, Spinster, and the Predacons.
This film will explain how exactly the decepticons were able to take control of Cybertron in the 86 film, including the construction of the autobot moon bases, Autobot City aka Metroplex, the fate of many of the autobot 84/85 cast members.
Synopsis[]
Narrator: "It is the year 1990, the decepticons have been quiet for the last few years, Optimus Prime is quite worried, and time will tell if the decepticons will strike, but Prime isn't going to sit back and wait"
Opening: The movie begins with the narrator explaining the autobots like in the original cartoon, successfully win the battle, for the last 5 years, the decepticon army has become less challenging and more predicable to defeat as the decepticons retreat with Megatron shouting that he will be avenged yet again and again. Even sending his big weapons the combaticons, Stunticons and Constructicons to destroy several cities to lure the autobots which resulted in their defeat by such powerful autobots like Skyfire, Omega Supreme, and Superion, Defensor and the Dinobots.
In the decepticon aquatic base, Megatron has become infuriated by the current power of his army, even with the 3 combiner decepticons in his position, Starscream snarks that he can lead an operation to the ark into destroying the base of the autobots, Megatron swats Starscream into a wall, enraged Megatron believes their chances of defeating the autobots must come from a sheer acomplishment such as taking something dear from Prime leaving him unbalanced, perhaps the humans..
Luckily for him, Shockwave has made contact, he reports that his forces are under attack by Elita One, and explains a new autobot force has arrived, led by Ultra Magnus, Megatron then goes into motionless state, realizing that Magnus has arrived on Cybertron, Starscream questions who is Ultra Magnus, to which Rumble laughs at him, Megatron explains quickly that Ultra Magnus was Optimus's best friend before the war, he and him go way back before he killed them Ultra Magnus quickly made his way into a high ranked commander. Shockwave begs Megatron to spare some of his additonal warriors, as Elita may come close defeating him. Megatron then believes if Shockwave is defeated then the stronghold of the decepticon's last base on cybertron is lost, however Megatron then has came up with a plan upon sinisterly laughing.
In the year 1990, Optimus Prime and Wheeljack attempt ask Teletran if there have been any decepticon sightings. Teletraan comes up with nothing reporting that all is quiet, for the last two and half years seemgly victory is on the autobots side. Ironhide then remarks that they have been dealing some blows upon the decepticons, Ironhide thinks they may be licking their wounds than usual, Perceptor intterupts Ironhide, saying that the decepticons have previously been know to hide and stragertize before.
Prime agrees, then Prime gets a call from Spike his old friend, Spike and Bumblebee call Optimus into coming to his wedding, it is revelead Spike has confessed to Carly and has proposed, Carly is very estastic but she has agreed. Prime questioned the date of the wedding admitting he has been busy with arrangments with the president, he apologizes and will think about it, leaving a very odd but sad look on Spike and Bumblebee's faces. The autobots all look at their leader with a very concering look. Optimus says: What's wrong? Ratchet feels as though he should be relaxing, as the decepticons have done nothing but be about the energon, their grand space plans have been dwindled in the last few years, he should feel relieved, if this is the case the decepticons should be gone for awhile, Prime acknowledges the concern but he must be vilgante, Prime orders Perceptor, Ratchet, Wheeljack, Cliffjumper, Sideswipe to go to Omega Supreme, to see if he's found anything. After they leave, Optimus has a deep talk with Ironhide of why he's so keen of trying to take down Megatron right now? Optimus is very concerned as Megatron has not been hidden before in a long time, he even wonders of his base the Victory? So far Ironhide thinks they have probably learned their lesson or just simply gone back to stealing energon even combiner sub groups have been used as dig boys says Ironhide, regardless he remains still confident that
A flashback shows Optimus Prime, fighting various Decepticons on cybertron and Megatron where he and Megatron fight he almost has Megatron in his crosshairs but hesistates, as Soundwave blasts him in the back, and Megatron defeats him, snarking as he mercy makes him weak.
At Central City, Bumblebee, Hound, Jazz, Sparkplug, Spike, and Chip all decide to find a wedding ring for carly, Jazz believes if they were still on cybertron their sonic crystals would've been a good choice for the wedding ring, but Sparkplug corrects him, saying that Central City has the coolest rings in the whole state, Spike still thinks they may be going too hasty with the wedding. Regardless Bee is happy to be his best man, Spike still wonders why Optimus Prime has been so busy, with Sparkplug and Jazz telling Spike that the decepticons take priority.
Ironhide (in vehicle mode) Carly and her friends meanwhile, drive to her and Spike's new apartment. Carly's friends ask what is it like being engaged to a guy who is friends with the coolest beings in the universe, Carly at first felt like being science fiction class, but it was all a different world being friends with the transformers, in fact Ironhide reveals himself much to the suprise of her friends, Carly admits Ironhide is her best and him and her go way back, Ironhide admits he's happy to help his best earth friend and wonders how do weddings work? Carly tells him, about a man and woman admit for each other and begin a new life with each other, Ironhide admits it sounds different than were he's from. He admits Prime and Elita were the only ones he knew who had a long term relationship like Carly's and Spike's, Carly does ask how come Elita has never been to Earth? Ironhide narrates how Elita wanted to go but during a battle Optimus urged her not to come as it was too dangerous and she could be killed, Ironhide believed he wanted to keep her safe, Carly's friend found it quite sad, but Ironhide ackwnoledges Elita is tough, she would actually loved to met Carly too.
In the victory, the decepticons prepare to stage an attack on cybertron, Devastator and Menasor will be sent, followed by Astrotrain and the Reflectors for backup, meanwhile the Combaticons are ordered to subterfuge on earth, therby allowing Prime to watch and learn both his homeworlds, earth and cybertron destroyed! Megatron remarks his plan shall finally set the end of the great war!
On cybertron a furious battle ensues where Ultra Magnus, Elita One, Kup, lead a charge in the decepticon base, Shockwave summons the Storm Seekers: Nova, Ion and Acid Storm, but with Magnus's team and Elita's fearsome femme fatale, are able to work together and stop them. The autobot forces along with Ultra Magnus's second in commands Kup and Arcee help take down Shockwave's drones, Elita thanks Ultra Magnus for responding to her call. Ultra Magnus assured Elita as they're old friends and did owe her for saving him in Kaon once. Shockwave learns from a decepticon seeker, the autobots have made their way into the tower, Shockwave has not heard a response from Megatron, Shockwave has no choice but detnate their base before escaping with the seeker accepting their loss, however Shockwave notices a space bridge beacon activate.
On earth Optimus Prime continues to figure out where Megatron is, but Telatraan has no response, and suggests Optimus must vacate from searching for Megatron, Optimus believes he has went out this too long, and decides to a drive, he remembers that Spike is in central city and goes by to see him, nearly minutes later, Soundwave,, Seekers, Swindle, Blastoff attempt to invade the ark, Soundwave ejects Rumble to infitrate the base but learns it is not so easily abandoned.
Megatron gets a response that Optimus Prime and the autobots have vacated, but there is still security within the ship, some leftover autobots: Grimlock, Snarl, Swoop, Red Alert, Skids, Hoist and Gears are guarding the base it seems, Megatron berates them and wants the autobots destroyed. The decepticons began a sweep and clear within ark, several autobots Skids, Mirage, Hoist, Gears, Swoop, are badly damaged, Grimlock and Snarl defeating from the other Combaticons, as Soundwave begins the next stage of their plan...
In Central City, the Autobots purchase the ring, and suit with Optimus Prime arriving, the autobots are happy to see their leader out of the ark, with Prime agreeing, Spike is considering to take the autobots, Chip and Sparkplug to a good restruant, where Hound has sent the chef certain transformer indigents. However they are then intercepted by Ramjet, Vortex, Starscream, Dirge, Laserbeak who begin to start decimating the streets, the autobots safely attempt to fire back, but during the fire fight, Sparkplug is hit. Spike begs Bumblebee to help take to the hospitial, with Prime ordered Jazz to escort him, Chip and Spike there while he deals with decepticon birds. Optimus Prime continues to lead an assault while Hound evacutes many humans as possible. Optimus wounds the decepticons, Ramjet crashes into a nearby building luckily it is in construction, Optimus interogattes Ramjet asking why he has returned and what is Megatron planning this time? Ramjet alludes to their grand plan, but merely a final weaver, an end all, to watch both his worlds both gone. Optimus knocks out Ramjet, and notices Laserbeak still watching but escapes, Hound tracks him and subdues him, Starscream, Vortex and Dirge watch from afar and leave the two other decepticons but remarks they will free them. Much later Sparkplug is in the hospital he was hit near the stomach, the doctors admit they are trying everything. With Spark enraged by the decepticons attack, Spike begs Bumblebee and Jazz to find Megatron and make sure he'll get whats coming to him. Jazz decides to go back and want Bee to stay with Spike, Jazz contacts Ironhide who got the message from a news report. Optimus, Hound, Jazz and Ironhide return to find the ark decimated, Prime furious finds a damaged Red Alert who says the decepticon have did this. Ratchet along with Wheeljack arrive, and attempt to fix up their autobot buddies, but however upon learning the extensive by the ark, they may not be able to save everyone, Perceptor deduces a setup, with a newly built teletraan 1 warning Optimus Prime of the location of Omega Supreme, and Protectobots, not only that but major cities are under attack the decepticons have attacked various cities, Optimus believed he has himself to blame, if he stayed on the ark his allies would not be in critical condition, but that is not worst yet, Megatron contacts Optimus Prime telling him that the ark and central city are merely the beginning.
Around this time a flashback shows Ultra Magnus and Elita's team invading Shockwave's tower, as they have him Cornered, but then a giant hand crashes within, Devastator, is shown to have grabbed Elita, and Shockwave, while the Stunticons arrive to attempt to defeat the autobots, Ultra Magnus team put up a good fight but are too apperhanded quickly. Megatron reveals that has captured the autobots and will excute them, unless he comes. Optimus, tells the autobots to defend earth no matter what, he will go to cybertron alone. The autobots debate this plan as it is sucide, Ironhide denies it that he needs a team, with Prime believing he does not want to lose anymore friends as it seems, Megatron has pulled out all the stops.
