The Spectrum Within is a Nickelodeon animated television series focusing on a teenage girl who is the only member of the family who had a few mental disabilities and disorders: autism, Rett syndrome and ADHD. This series is created by Dynasti Noble, whom the main character is based on.

Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, an 11th grader named Desiree Newman has moved to Kaiser, a suburb near Austin, Texas. She finds out that she is diagnosed with autism, ADHD and Rett syndrome when she was 5. Struggling to handle her disabilities, she finds out that she is a psychic. Desiree can now use telekinesis, clairvoyance, and telepathy.

- Desiree Newman (voiced by Marsai Martin) – An autistic 17-year-old girl who is in 11th grade. She gained a lot of supernatural powers such as telekinesis, clairvoyance and telepathy. When she was 5, finds out that she is diagnosed with autism, ADHD and Rett syndrome. She is born on February 1 in Dayton, Ohio but moved to Kaiser, a suburb near Austin, Texas.
- Daymon Newman III (voiced by Christian J. Simon) – Desiree’s 13-year-old brother. He is serious, loves video games and has been wearing glasses since a younger age. He is based on the creator’s younger brother who is the same age as him.
- Destiny Newman (voiced by Kennedi Butler) – Desiree’s 6-year-old sister. She is fun-loving and very sweet.
- Daymon Newman, Jr. (voiced by Khary Payton) – Desiree’s African-American father whom Desiree cares about. He is a stay-at-home father.
- Chanel Newman (voiced by Karen Malina White) – Desiree’s mixed-race mother who is of Irish descent. She works as a nurse.
