Production

Development

While working for The Darkest Awakening, Zoe Tria came up with another TV series. This time, it will involve choir kids in a secondary school. It will be shorter than The Darkest Awakening since it is just a TV series for kids between the ages of 7-12. CBBC got the rights to turn Tria's ideas into a TV series and distributed it to their channel along with ABC Me in Australia and New Zealand and Netflix worldwide. The series is inspired by American musical television series, 'Glee' and Australian TV series, 'Nowhere Boys.' Filming started in December 2019.

Casting

Blake Richardson, Brad Simpson, Troye Sivan and George Smith all agreed to be part of the cast along with Zoe Tria herself. Then Kenzo Sarmiento joined later after a request that he wanted to be in the series. Since Tria also wanted a mean girl to be in the cast, her cousin, Annika Osias joined after being asked. The rest of the cast joined later.

Filming

The series is filmed in an unnamed secondary school in London, England during school hours.

The Secondary School Choir: Out Of Nowhere

Main Article: The Secondary School Choir: Out Of Nowhere

The spin-off follows up the events after the episode, 'Takedown' though there are some episodes that are non-cannon. It takes a more comedic turn than the previous but will still be a musical. Out Of Nowhere shows more character to the minor characters unlike the original The Secondary School Choir and also many episodes contain music videos in between scenes. Also most episodes are set in school rather than the Thomson house. The series also mainly revolves around Blake and Reece unlike the previous instalment where it revolves around Zoe.

The Secondary School Choir: The Reality Show

Main Article: The Secondary School Choir: The Reality Show

The spin-off doesn't follow up events from Out Of Nowhere but takes place during it's timeline. This shows interactions between the characters and the audience and a performance before and after each show but unlike the original The Secondary School Choir or Out Of Nowhere where there are 2 or 3 songs in each episode, there is only one song per episode. The spin-off is also educational where the characters would teach the audience about a topic from English, Maths, Science, Health, Physical Education, Social Studies, History and Art unlike Out Of Nowhere where most of the episodes teach Maths.

Trivia

  • The series was originally going to be a film but due to budget problems, it became a series instead
  • The series was also going to be in Wattpad but because The Darkest Awakening is being worked on the same time, it is only shown in Ideas Wiki
  • A secondary school is what the UK or other commonwealth countries call high school
  • In the series, the coronavirus(which is the SARS CoV-2) was mentioned which means the series takes place during the outbreak
    • However, as shown with the birth years of the characters, it is stated that the series takes place in 2019 before the outbreak gets worse and managed to hit the UK and other countries so it must've taken place in an alternate universe
