The Mitchells vs. The Machines: We Never Left is a 2024 American computer-animated science fiction comedy film produced by Sony Pictures Animation. The film was directed by Michael Rianda, co-directed by Jeff Rowe, and written by Rianda and Rowe, with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Kurt Albrecht serving as producers. It stars the voices of Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Eric André, Olivia Colman, Fred Armisen, Beck Bennett, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Blake Griffin, and Conan O'Brien.

Synopsis[]

Four years after the apocalypse, the Mitchells' lives begin a new chapter as their oldest daughter Katie returns to Michigan for her wedding. But things get messy when the robot servants, Eric and Deborahbot, fly away to find who they truly are.

Plot[]

The film begins with Mark Bowman and Frank Muse in the Pal Labs headquarters, discussing about their latest products, PAL+ and PAL Max+, and their possible sentience. Mark does not want them to be as self aware as they once were, but Frank says it's necessary for the grasp they're taking. As they argue, the EDEN bots surround them, prepared to trap them. While being taken away by the EDENs, Mark and Frank accuse them of being controlled by PAL to capture them, even if she's been "subdued" in a PAL+ model. However, it is revealed that it wasn't PAL who ordered the EDENs.
