The Loud House Movie (also commonly known as The Loud Movie) is an American hand-drawn animated feature film produced by Nickelodeon Movies, and was distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was released on August 13, 2019. It is based on the Nickelodeon television series of the same name, and was directed by show creator, Chris Savino. The film starred the series cast of Grant Palmer, Grey DeLisle, Catherine Taber, Liliana Mumy, Jessica DiCicco, Cristina Pucelli, and Tara Strong, with guest performances by Brad Garrett, Michael Caine, and Greg Cipes.

Summary

The film, much like the show, revolves around the life of a boy named Lincoln Loud, who survives in a large family of eleven children. Lincoln is going on to 6th grade to attend middle school, while hanging out with his friends Clyde, Ronnie Anne, and his old friends from 5th grade. However, things are not going too bright at the house of Louds. Lori gets so stressed out over drama between her and her boyfriend Bobby and the love triangle with Lincoln's best friend Clyde, a family road trip turns hectic in the end, Luna decides to quit rock, Lucy deals with drama and a heartbreak at school because of her emo/goth disposition, and Leni decides to leave home after realizing how dumb she really is, Lincoln must try to help out his ten sisters, while surviving his hectic life at middle school.

Production

Production started when Nickelodeon and Paramount approached to Savino for a film based on the series. and Savino was at first, against the idea of producing a film for the show. However, later he stated, "I love these characters, and when I do this, I feel like the Loud family is part of my very own. When coming up with ideas to produce this film, I didn't want this to be a big adventure film with the Louds, but wanted this to be more about what the show was all about, and expand on the situations and past involved with these characters. I wanted to produce the film this way to show that this house of siblings was more than just stereotypes."

There were three plots written for the movie, but the first two were turned down by Savino. It was originaly going to be a prequel to the show about how Mr. and Mrs. Loud met and fell in love. Savino turned down the idea because he felt it would take away from the main characters' story and be too boring for children. The second plot involved Lincoln running away from home because of an argument he and his sisters got into, and the sisters had to track him down. But, it was scrapped due to the plot sounding like the SpongeBob episode "Whatever Happened to SpongeBob?", and also because Savino wanted the plot to be more focused on the relationship between Lincoln and each of his sisters, which was eventually used as the final plot for the film.

Originally, Leni was going to commit suicide in the film instead of just simply running away from home. Savino was strongly against the idea, saying it was too inappropriate for young viewers, and could possibly get the film banned. Savino changed to where Leni instead wants to leave the family, and was eventually approved.

The first trailer was shown at the 2018 New Year's Eve party at Nickelodeon studios Orlando.

Plot

Lincoln Loud, an 11 year old boy who lives in a house with ten sisters, is about to head off for his first year of middle school, but realizes that his sister Lynn, goes to the same school, worrying that things will turn out embarrassingly for his first day. Upon first arrival, he is picked on by bigger and older kids, which he gets over for a while when he meets his older friends from 5th grade, including his best friend Clyde, and his girlfriend Ronnie Anne.

However, during the first Sports subject, he is pummeled by the bigger kids, which causes Lynn to thrash the other kids and win the game for Lincoln, not realizing that she wasn't on his team. Later, Lynn is sent to detention for her behavior, which causes Lincoln to feel more stressed about his time at middle school.

"Why Am I So Dumb?" Lyrics

Leni: (sniffs) well this is it, I guess.

-Music starts-

Leni: Why am I so dumb? I don't know...

Leni: I just don't know why.

Leni: It irritates everyone, and I never do anything right

Leni: If I stayed dumb, I probably wont go to any good colleges

Leni: I just want to be smart like Lisa

Leni: I like Lincoln as a brother even if I never understand a word he says

Lincoln: True.

Leni: I'm probably gonna be home forever, and I won't wanna deal with any thing outside of it

Leni: I wish I was smart, for once, just once I want to be smart

-Music continues without her singing-

Leni: its for the better if I just left home, where no one can put up with me...

-Leni packs up her things, while walking inside and runs up to her room and writes note informing where she has gone-

-After writing the note, she was about to head out the door, when Lincoln stops her-

Lincoln: Leni, NO!

Leni: Huh, Lincoln?

Lincoln: Leni, please don't leave. You're... you're one of the most kind hearted people I know.

Leni: But what's the point!? Everything I do just causes trouble.

Lincoln: Come on Leni, you're not stupid, you just don't know a lot!

-The music starts back up-

Leni: That's the same as stupid!

Lincoln: Not at all!

Leni: Forget it, I'll just go.

Lincoln: (sighs) Leni, it's a dangerous world out there on your own. Would leaving our family change anything? We would be so worried sick if you left. You may think we hate you because of how you act. But... we don't hate you at all, and it doesn't matter how you act. The important thing is that we look out for each other, and we love each other. Would we really want to treat you like that?

-Leni puts the bag down beside her-

Leni: You... really mean it Lincoln?

Lincoln: Of course I do!

-Leni smiles with tears in her eyes, and she hugs Lincoln, while he slowly hugs her back-

Leni: Thanks, Linky.

Lincoln: No problem, Bob.

Leni: it's Leni!

Lincoln: Just kidding!

-the two laugh and the song ends-
