The Life of a Boy (Japanese: 冷戦物語, Hepburn: Reisen monogatari, lit 'Cold War Story') is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akira Hamashi. It was serialized in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday Super from August 1983 to May 1984, It tells the story of an unnamed young boy living with his grandfather in the Japanese countryside, who's world is turned upside down when a foreign army attacks and invades the area, forcing the boy and grandfather to survive the harsh enviorment all while keeping the boy's sense of innocence.

Hamashi made the manga with the purpose of gaining funding for a movie adaptation, which would eventually be released in late 1984, the film would see a succesful (albeit controversial) release in the United States in 1985. After this, Hamashi would use the success of film by moving to American to work in Hollywood. The manga wouldn't see an English translation until 2009 when LIVE Comics (a joint-venture between LIVE Entertainment and DC Comics) licensed it for the film's 25th anniversary.
