The King of Fighters Burst is a 3D team-based arena fighter designed to be a new take on the King of Fighters and a launch title for Nintendo Rift.
Synopsis[]
Set in an alternate King of Fighters universe, a brand-new King of Fighters tournament is hosted by the mysterious Madame Stone as numerous fighters both new and old band together to fight in this tournament, including a rebellious college student who is revealed to be a member of America's own four Sacred Treasures families.

- Team Hero, the main team of the game which are a group of young fighters united by Crystal to join the King of Fighters tournament. Consisting of:
- Crystal Connors (voiced by Marissa Lenti) - a rebellious and brooding college student who recently learned that she was a member of America's own force to protect the seal of Orochi, the Connors family who has their own Sacred Treasure. She is capable of natural fire control thanks to this origin and had lost her family to Madame Stone as she forms Team Hero to join the King of Fighters in order to get revenge on Madame Stone.
- Shane Li (voiced by SungWon Cho) - a focused and honorable college-aged martial artist from China who moved to America after learning of the King of Fighters tournament hosted by the enigmatic Madame Stone, although he just wants to prove himself as the greatest Jeet Kun Do fighter out there. He joins Team Hero and is able to use water to enhance his combat.
- Boris Volkov (voiced by Ray Chase) - a cocky yet friendly and well-meaning college-aged Russian wrestler who aspires to be a great champion, as he ends up learning of the King of Fighters tournament hosted by the mysterious Madame Stone, and joins Team Hero, being a master of grappling despite not having any real powers besides his bare fists and wrestling skills.
- Team Sacred Treasures, a team consisting of the three Sacred Treasure families of Japan who banded together again to investigate Madame Stone, with Chizuru sensing the threat of the resurrection of Orochi. Consisting of:
- Kyo Kusanagi (voiced by Aleks Le) - the charismatic and fight loving yet brave legendary hero who was convinced by Chizuru to join forces with her and Iori to investigate the tournament. He still uses his strong fire controlling powers and proves himself as a legend.
- Iori Yagami (voiced by Matthew Mercer) - an insane and fight loving former musician who wants to kill Kyo Kusanagi as he is reluctantly joining forces with him and Chizuru to investigate this new tournament, even if to just get a chance to fight Kyo.
- Chizuru Kagura (voiced by Laura Post) - a wise and kind warrior who is designed to protect the Sacred Treasures and keep Orochi's seal as she forms Team Sacred Treasures and seriously believes that whatever Madame Stone is planning would be terrifying.
- Team Fatal Fury, a team of heroes and legends from South Town who chose to compete in the King of Fighters to help figure out if they are still capable of fighting. Consisting of:
- Terry Bogard (voiced by Michael Allan Schneider) - the brave and friendly Legendary Hungry Wolf who started to fear that he is getting older and less combative as he chooses to join the new King of Fighters to hopefully prove that he can still fight.
- "Blue" Mary Ryan (voiced by Allegra Clark) - Terry's focused and confident girlfriend who is a currently retired secret agent as she suspects that Geese Howard is plotting something sinister at the King of Fighters and joins Terry's team to not just help Terry regain his confidence but figure out what Geese is planning.
- Rock Howard (voiced by Griffin Puatu) - the shy yet strong and brave son of Geese Howard and Terry's adopted son who joins him and Blue Mary in the King of Fighters to help with Terry's midlife crisis while learning of his father's own plans with the tournament.
- Team South Town, a team of villains and outlaws hired by Geese Howard to join the King of Fighters to figure out what Madame Stone is planning and steal it from her. Consisting of:
- Billy Kane (voiced by Chris Sharpes) - a calm yet overly cynical bodyguard who is deeply loyal to Geese Howard as he readily takes the command to join the King of Fighters tournament for his master, fighting using his giant pole and is willing to do anything for Geese.
- Ryuji Yamazaki (voiced by Doug Erholtz) - a mentally insane and violent mob enforcer whose arm is made out of Orochi energy itself as he is also sent alongside Kane to investigate the King of Fighters, even if he clearly wants to hurt others.
- Team Art of Fighting, a team of legendary fighters also from South Town which is Ryo attempting to train the next generation of the Kyokugenryu fighting style.
- Ryo Sakazaki/Mister Karate (voiced by Yong Yea) - the legendary master of Kyokugenryu Martial Arts who had recently taken his father's identity of Mister Karate as he chooses to train some students in the Kyokugenryu style by taking them on to join the King of Fighters themselves.
- Marco Rodrigues (voiced by Earl Baylon) - one of Ryo's current students who is a serious yet playful martial artist as he intends to prove himself as the greatest fighter and just as good as Ryo, gladly joining him on the King of Fighters.

- Madame Lorianne Stone (voiced by Judy Alice Lee) - an enigmatic and quite terrifying young multibillionaire who is the host of this new King of Fighters tournament who intends on using the tournament to break the seal on Orochi and to absorb his own powers to become a Goddess. She serves as the game's final boss of the Arcade Ladder by absorbing fragments of Orochi.

- Sound Beach - the most famous beach of South Town, located in the south part of town, which is also a famous resort spot for surfing.
- The Stone Throne - the final stage of the game, where Madame Stone battles the fighters with the absorbed fragments of Orochi. If two playable characters are fighting each other instead, Madame Stone will be seen in her throne watching the characters fight and will clap over the winner.
