Development[]

In January 2006, Scholastic announced that they're planning to make a spin-off of The Basic Worlds of Colorland, titled The Fruitastic World of Fruitsville, which is about Orange Ollie, the character from the original series, going on her vacation to Fruitsville to see her old fruit-like friends. The spin-off was set to be released in November 2007, but it was delayed until July 2009 and then put on hiatus the following year. In December 2009, it was announced that The Fruitastic World of Fruitsville had been cancelled due to creative difficulties, and Kaiser wanted to focus on making more stories for the original series, which was to be released next year after 5 years of hiatus.

On November 22, 2021, it was announced that The Fruitastic World of Fruitsville has been revived by Amazon and will serve as a spin-off of the 2000 television series The Basic Worlds of Colorland. It was also announced that a few of the crew members who worked on the original series would return for the spin-off series. The series began to be green-lit in December 2022 with a 20-episode order, which is set to be released in 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.

In June 2024, the series was renewed for a second season, which is set to premiere on June 12, 2025.
