The Conjuring: Darkness Rising (死霊館 闇の台頭; Shiryō-kan yami no taitō) is an upcoming adult animated anime supernatural horror film directed by Kenji Kamiyama, screenwritten by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and Mari Okada, and produced by James Wan, Peter Safran, and Joseph Chou. It is a spin-off and prequel to The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle (2014), and The Nun (2018), and the first installment of the second phase and the tenth overall installment of The Conjuring Universe. The film stars Brian Cox, Peter Dinklage, and Will Forte.
The film's aesthetic visuals took inspiration from Akira (1988), works from Studio Ghilbi's, and some from Tim Burton's.
It is scheduled to be released on September 21, 2029.
Premise[]
Taking place before the events of the entire chronology of The Conjuring Universe, which is set in the year 1949, where a group of catholic exorcists in Vatican City led by "Pope Pius XII" discover a mysterious case that awakens their greatest fears, the "Darkness" that is served as the antithesis of all gods and the true progenitor of all demons, including Valek, causing chaos to emerge throughout the city, and the catholic exorcists must find an effort for a way to stop the darkness from rising before it gets too dangerous.

James Wan considers plans of an animated film that takes place in The Conjuring Universe after the box office success in The Conjuring: Last Rites, it is confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures that James Wan's project will be an adult animated anime film featuring Kenji Kamiyama as the director, with Mari Okada joining the screenplay alongside the others whom returned from the last film. James Wan, Peter Safran, and Joesph Chou are being set as the producers of the film, while the project puts Michael Chaves in as an executive producer.
