Writing[]
Cotugno said they wanted to stick close to the book's themes of self-acceptance and "the experience of being the other and how that afffects people", so they worked closely woth author B.B. Alsten to accomplish this. For the planning of the episodes, the writing team studied the books in order to determine which chapters were best fit for an episode. Cotugno noted this influenced how much the story would change for the episode, as some episodes required minimal changes due to the chapters covered being lomg enough, while others had more promenient changes as a result of the selecyed chapters not covering "enough groumd" to work as an episode.
