Super Mario Flipped is a 3D platformer and a launch title for the Nintendo Flux with the game having the gimmick of flipping between a "Light" and "Dark" world with different platforming challenges and collectables tied to both worlds. The devs additionally chose to make Duo Island its own thing with Mario and Bowser being the main Mario characters who show up in the game, with others being brand new faces.

Synopsis[]

Mario chooses to take a vacation to the massive island of Duo Island as he is soon thrust into exploring all of Duo Island when Bowser, using a weapon known as the Flip Star, has kidnapped the Princess of Duo Island and awakens a world known as the Dark World. Now Mario, with the help of a sentient floating star, has to platform through both sides of Duo Island to stop Bowser.

Characters[]

Main/Playable[]

  • Mario (voiced by Kevin Afghani) - the silent yet playful and energetic hero of the Mushroom Kingdom who takes a vacation to Duo Island as he soon has to platform through the Light and Dark worlds in order to stop Bowser's new scheme to become all powerful, gaining the help from Stella to stop Bowser's schemes.
  • Suzy (voiced by Shelby Young) - a playful and somewhat idiotic talkative star who lives in Duo Island as she encounters Mario and has the power to flip through worlds to help Mario out. She is very glad to have a new friend and has full voice lines throughout the game, being capable of interacting with the residents of Duo Island.

NPCs[]

  • Princess Tulip (voiced by Anairis Quiñones) - the calm and graceful Princess of Duo Island who was tasked with keeping both worlds of Duo Island safe from villainous hands as she gets kidnapped by Bowser and his new forces, giving Mario advice through holograms littered throughout Duo Island, teaching him what Duo Island truly has in store.
  • Captain Goobus (voiced by Alejandro Saab) - a giant yet friendly and silly slime-like creature who claims to be a knight in training as he resides in Evergreen Grotto, giving Mario a few different missions to help him in becoming the greatest knight out there. His Dark World counterpart has a mustache and is slightly more mischievous.

Bosses[]

  • Bowser (voiced by Kenny James) - the greedy and power-hungry King of the Koopas who stole the Flip Star and became all powerful as he intends on taking over all of Duo Island, with Mario having to stop him. During the final confrontation with him, Bowser merges with the Flip Star, gaining the power to flip worlds himself.
  • The Pirahnahydra - a giant and hulking Pirahna Plant which has six heads as it is one of the two bosses Mario could face in Evergreen Grotto, being loyal to Bowser, even if it isn't the smartest creature alive and is way more territorial and aggressive compared to other Pirahna Plants.

Enemies[]

  • Goombas - small brown creatures who are some of Bowser's most trusted minions as they run towards people to try and hurt them. In the Dark World, they wear a spiked helmet which makes them incapable of being jumped on.
  • Koopas - small turtles who are also Bowser's trusted minions and will dash towards people to try and hurt them, although Mario can defeat them by stepping on them, and use their shells as weapons. In the Dark World, they wield guns which they can fire at Mario.
  • Bob-Ombs - small sentient bombs who are among Bowser's minions, and will attack by exploding, although Mario can grab them and throw them as explosive weapons. In the Dark Worlds, the Bob-Ombs are incapable of blowing up and instead try to light Mario on fire.

Gameplay[]

The game plays as a 3D platformer as you play as Mario who can jump, wall jump, double jump and swing to attack. The game's main gameplay gimmick is switching between the Light and the Dark worlds as it could be done at any time. There are certain missions and collectibles in each world as swapping between worlds is useful for platforming and puzzle solving. Each boss involves the world switching mechanic as well. Mystic Orbs are the primary collectible that Mario needs to consistently collect to unlock more worlds.

Worlds/Areas[]

  • Evergreen Grotto - the game's mandatory first area before the rest of Duo Island opens up which is a calm and peaceful grasslands home to many creatures and more basic platforming. The Dark World variant takes a more gothic and gloomy design philosophy.

Missions/Challenges[]

Evergreen Grotto[]

  • TBD
  • Six Heads Are Better Than One! - Defeat the Pirahnahydra in the cave in Evergreen Grotto. Reward: Three Mystic Orbs.
