Steven Universe: The Tournament is a 2024 comedy-adventure-sci-fi-drama-coming-of-age animated television movie produced by Cartoon Network Studios.
It will be released on August 23, 2024.
Summary[]
When Steven is invited to the biggest cartoon sporting tournament event of all time, he's excited to make new friends and become a champion - but its easier said than done.
Plot[]
Steven goes to the Big Donut to get a donut, when he notices that a new donut is on the board, promoting a cartoon tournament called the Great Cartoon Championships. Steven is confused, when Buck comes in and starts talking to Sadie about it. At the temple, Steven asks Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl if they know anything about it. Garnet brings Steven a flyer with is gibberish. Garnet uses an Atbash decoder to decode the gibberish on the flyer and reveals that it is actually an invitation to the GCC. Excited, Steven goes to Little Homeschool to see Lapis, Peridot and Bismuth. They all talk about how they never had a chance to go to the tournament in the past events. When it comes to Lapis, Peridot asks her why she never got a chance to go there, when, she becomes upset and flies away. Peridot is confused, when Steven reminds her that Lapis couldn't go to the tournament because she was stuck in the mirror. They all decide to go to Lapis to cheer her up. They find Lapis in a forest crying, and they comfort her, assuring her that everything will be okay. Lapis cheers up. Jasper and Spinel come and they all talk about the tournament. Jasper says that competing in the tournament is dangerous, so Steven says that he'll just watch. Jasper says that the tournament will take place in New Sanfranyorkyo and that it is too far away to go there by vortex in CN City, so everyone is getting there by a plane from Empire City Airport. Steven sings a song called "There's Gonna Be A Tournament, And Everyone's Invited".
That night, in CN City, Steven and the gang find K.O., Dendy, Enid and Rad. They are all here to go to the tournament, but it is three hours until they leave to go to the airport, so K.O. recommends that they all go out for dinner at a restaurant. Steven thinks that that is a good idea. The humans have sushi at Mr. Hasashi's Cooking Bar. The gems (except for Amethyst) don't. Everyone is excited, except for Mr. Hasashi, who can't go to the tournament. Steven tells Mr. Hasashi that he will bring him back a souvenir. After dinner, there is two and a half hours before they go to the airport, so Dendy decides that they go to the CN Theater to watch a movie. They all watch Godzilla: Conquest Of The Daleks at CN Theater. A man doesn't find it scary, but he is soon later scared by Godzilla roaring. After the movie, it is time to go to the airport. They decided to drive to the airport in a Limousine instead, they gathered everyone everyone to get to the Limousine, except Bloo who's not interested by not going as he's gone outta control trying to kill everyone, but Jasper stops him by sitting him and squishing on him, now he won't bothered anyone again. Steven and K.O. got off the car and went to go get some snacks for everybody, Jasper remains sitting down and not let Bloo go. As Steven continues to drive, Bloo escapes and push Steven off the Limo as he drives madly, Steven saves K.O. and search for Bloo before he destroys the Limo. Meanwhile Maia and the others are fishing until they caught Steven as he told them what happened, so Maia and her friends decided to help him out to catch Bloo and the limo, they finally catch Bloo and the limo but unfortunately the limo is broken and thinks they won't make it to airport, but then Sonic and the others show up and help them get to the airport fast.
As soon as they arrived at the airport, they meet up with Kabuki and his friends who wanted to go to GCC in New Sanfranyorkyo to win the championship award. They went to the security check to make sure that everything they have is alright then they made it to the airplane and flies out into the distance.
Later that night K.O. is dreaming that all of his friends, including Spongebob and Dendy turned into some marble. K.O. wakes up from the dream and goes to sleep with Enid, then out of nowhere came a mysterious stick named "Sticky" who appeared to be his conscience, he tries to warn him do not go there, but K.O. refused to listen. The next morning K.O. explains to everyone about the dream and Sticky if it's true or not. Hours later they finally arrived at New Sanfranyorkyo.
In the airport, they meet a man name Tadashi who notice something familiar about Steven thinking him he's a perfect type of person in the universe. Steven and the others get to the hotel, they go in separate rooms, K.O. decides to go sleep with Jasper while Dendy goes sleep with Peridot, and for everyone else, they all went to their rooms and spend the day there until tomorrow. While K.O. is sleeping with Jasper, Sticky appears and begins to bother him, Jasper discover this and punches him multiple times, causing Sticky to leave and they went back to sleep.
The next day, when they get to go eat breakfast, they were confronted by Spongebob Squarepants and introduces them to Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs and Sandy Cheeks, then Spongebob takes them to a place called the Carnival. Dendy decides to help Jasper by becoming a normal size like Garnet and Bismuth so she can fit in all of these rides, suddenly K.O. falls off the ride and Jasper rescues him from falling, but due to their withstand from their falling, they have no choice but to fuse themselves into a new gem fusion called "Kasper" everyone was amazed to see their fusion, especially Enid and Radicles who are impressed about their fusion. They fused back to their own selfs and K.O. was amazed that this is the fist time he fused with a gem like her. Then they go to another ride, Onion appears out of nowhere, then a monkey named Nico appears shouting Ice Cream, but Steven tells him that they don't have Ice Cream and tries to calm him down, he introduce himself and shows him to his friends Trickshot, Procket, and Prince, they introduce themselves to Steven and Steven introduce them to his other friends, and told them about the Tournament filled with everything. Steven and the others entered the Cartoon Aquarium and watch some sea creatures, suddenly Mage the sneaky raccoon steals the Whales away from them, then Jasper appears out of nowhere and stops him by squishing him and brining them back to their tank, then they entered the amphibian area and there they meet Grotto and the others, then they told them about an evil older brother of his named Froggy who's responsible for killing their parents and K.O. and the others promised that they'll get revenge for his parents. Next they go to the pool and everyone relax there, while Steven is taking a rest at the hot tub, he dreams that he was in prison cell and the police officer claims that he's being possessed by Froggy for responsible for killing everyone in the universe. Steven wakes up and tells everyone about it.
Now they finally arrived at GCC and they were greeted by other cartoon heroes, including Tom, Jerry, and Bugs Bunny himself, leader of the Warner Bros. cartoons then he was interrupted by Disney's Mascot Mickey Mouse, but they both never get along because they don't have a best friendship. Steven and the others are greeted by Garfield, the fat cat who always sleeps, eats, and loves to annoyed humans, K.O. gets an autograph for the very first time from Garfield and Enid and Radicles are very impressed about it. Next they meet Crash Bandicoot and Trickshot gets an autograph from him, cause he's a huge fan of Crash Bandicoot. Next they meet Rayman and then last but not least Mario, Sonic was not Impressed to see him cause Mario is his rival, they go to meet him except Sonic and the others, Mario offers some Italian food and Steven brings it from Sonic and gives it to Mario, then gets an autograph. Now their time has come to go to the convention. Steven and the gang entered the Convention center, while WB and Disney cartoons are getting started, Bugs Bunny meets a strange Rabbit called Longear who wanted to help WB cartoon characters as well, but Bugs Bunny refuses and orders him to leave and never come back.
Longear sat all alone that nobody will ever invite Longear to help them out. Meanwhile with Steven and the gang who are having fun, until they heard someone crying. There they met Longear who snatched Steven away and runs with him while the others are catching up to save him. They attracted a cop who chases them because he ran pass him, but Longear manages to escape him by leaping into a wall with Steven alongside him. Longear greets Moxy, as he lets them both in. Moxy introduces himself to Steven, but Steven wants to know why, So Longear explains to him about the past. While Longear is telling a story, the others burst through the door and the Security Guard arrest Longear, but he quickly escapes by jumping through the hole along with Steven. Then they landed where all the dinosaurs were.
Steven was greeted by the two dinosaurs name Heart and Umasou. Steven explains to them about the tournament, then they decided to go to Aerial Train Tram where all the other cartoons are playing arcade, they waited until the tram moves. While at the tram, they were greeted by Baku, Heart's Biological Father and leader of Big Jaws, Heart explains to him that Steven and the others have come to the tournament. Later, Steven, Heart, and Umasou were greeted by other friends, such as Heart's brother, Light and a friendly Elasmosaurus name Pero Pero as they are enjoying themselves playing games and eating Pizza as well. The film was released on digital, DVD, Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray 3D on November 8, 2030. For the release, it came with five shorts revolving around the characters, TBA, TBA, TBA, TBA and Heart and Umasou's Big Chase.
The film was released on Checker on April 25, 2031, along with the shorts.
Disney+ series[]
At Disney Investor Day 2030, it was announced that a spin-off show based on The Tournament named Tournament Doofus would be released on July 4, 2031, following the main runners of the GCC, Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Roger Rabbit and Tom and Jerry trying the run the tournament, yet getting themselves into crazy situations.
