Synopsis[]

When they lose the fun center restaurant in a freak accident, Star, Marco, their friends and the Disney characters return to The Walt Disney Studios in time to learn that the greedy current Disney CEO, who took Bob Iger’s place, wants to turn it into an amusement park and must team up with Miles and the gang from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in order to keep their jobs and save their home.

Plot[]

In the start of the film, Star Butterfly (Eden Sher) narrates. She explains who is she is: a princess from another dimension, who is often seen as being reckless due to her hobbies, such as fighting monsters. She also explains that today is her fourteenth birthday, which means she will inherit her family's magic wand, and accidentally sets fire to her kingdom, and her parents decide that she "can't handle it" and send her off to Earth for training, where she will live with a local family and go to high-school. She also explains that she met and befriended Marco Diaz (Adam McArthur), and had fun with him and PonyHead (Jenny Slate). And she explains that she defeated Toffee, allowing Ludo to finish him off. However, Star's narration reveals that she reads a scrapbook to the Toy Story aliens, along with Dipper, Mabel, Piglet, Mike Wazowski, Timon, Pumbaa, Rex and Donald's nephews (Huey, Dewey and Louie)

Star and Marco, now loved and adored by all the Disney characters, along with the SpongeBob characters, start out by doing a cannon ball into a ticket barrel as they check on everyone in the fun center restaurant.

Mickey Mouse (Bret Iwan), the mascot of The Walt Disney Company, tries to help them remember by teaching Hamm, Trixie and a group of aliens from Toy Story how to forge for a nut, but after his own nut gathering plan backfires and causes him to fall from the tree, the aliens to back to the store, much to Mickey's annoyance. During a nut eating contest, Marco tries to win over Mickey with cheese, but he refuses and tells them to go back to the Disney studio since life in the fun center restaurant is turning them lazy, spoiled and fun.

Mickey unexpectedly gets his wish when Agent Xero, who's job it was to make sure the boiler in the basement is shut off before leaving, accidently leaves it on, which causes it to explode and destroys the nuts and the shop at the same time. Unwilling to admit defeat, Marco goes with Star to find more food but every attempt backfires and they go back empty handed.

Mickey tries to inspire them to go back to their roots but is interrupted when the company’s new CEO Perceval B. Johnson, who took place for Bob Iger (who left the company), suddenly rolls in and in front of a group of reporters, he tells them that he is going to replace The Walt Disney Studios, as well as its owner The Walt Disney Company, with Burbank Town, an amusement park of his own design that promises to be more fun than a mass media entertainment company and a movie studio.

Marco decides to fight back instead of leaving and Star and everyone rally with him. Eventually with enough team work, they chase the workers away. That night Donald Duck gives them favorite food from their series and media franchises to eat which they enjoy (although it more of desperate hunger then anything else) and Star and Marco talk about losing the fun center restaurant and wishes upon stars. The next morning Mickey tells the characters that it is time for breakfast, and SpongeBob hears Gary meowing, and goes to find him, who is tide up, but both get caught in a trap set by Hunter, head of an cartoon control team Johnson hired to get rid of the characters.

The situation gets worse when Timon and Pumbaa defend their friends by luring Catty away from them, and Timon is disgusted that the purple cat is friends with him and Pumbaa but the plan backfires when Leslie, Johnson's spoiled daughter, takes Timon and Pumbaa with her and Catty and the cartoon control force the characters out of the company and studio, which is then destroyed and the construction begins with broken rides that are condemned in place of real rides due to them being cheaper then more functional rides. Star, Marco and SpongeBob go after Timon and Pumbaa to rescue them while Mickey, Mike, Woody, Buzz and Jessie go to find a new home but both their plans for a new home are dashed when the only 'studio' turns out to be a dangerous football course that almost kills them.

Meanwhile, Star, Marco and SpongeBob run into Spider-Man, along with Miles, Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, SP//dr and Spider-Ham, and after Marco accidentally insults Spider-Man and his gang, they run for their lives but manage to escape his wrath before they make it to Johnson's mansion where they find him talking about buying such dangerous rides only to gain more money from people, throwing away safety and everything else out the door. Timon, Pumbaa and Catty are tormented by Leslie who treats them like toys instead of pets and Star, Marco and SpongeBob rescue Timon and Pumbaa. However before there's time for second thoughts, SpongeBob accidentally steps on a loud toy which alerts Leslie and they run for their lives. While avoiding Leslie and Johnson, Star purposely stops to destroy Johnson's favorite bobble head and Johnson shoots them with a bow and arrow. Although it misses Star, the arrow hits the platform Marco is standing on, causing him to fall to the streets and into a coma, much to Star's horror.

Mickey watches the making of Burbank Town before Star comes carrying a limp Marco in her arms. As Marco’s parents, Mickey and Star carry the comatose but respiring Marco inside the remains of the fun center restaurant and lay him on a big slab, Star blames herself for her recklessness and tearfully laments about the times she and Buddy had together. Mickey then tries to convince Star to come up with a plan to end Burbank Town, but Star still feels responsible for Marco's near-death state, saying her crazy plans do not work. SpongeBob hugs Marco with water out of thanks, and it suddenly causes the unconscious Marco to move. Star sees this and tells SpongeBob to hug him more times with lots of water. Sure enough, Marco miraculously wakes up and Star hugs her best friend tight, apologizing for being reckless. Mickey leaves to go to the grave of his creator, Walt Disney. Mickey talks to Marco and Star about how much he misses his creator. Star feels sorry about Walt Disney died. A dejected Star, along with Mickey and Marco, along with the rest of the Disney characters and the SpongeBob characters, are visited by the spirit of Walt Disney, who speaks with Mickey, revealing that he was so content with his cartoon creations while alive, that he has no unfinished business, encouraging him to move on, and then Walt Disney departs. However, Star admits that they gotta get Bob Iger back. Mickey and the rest of the characters agree with her, and she and Marco are inspired by the others to try again but this time they won't stop until the studio and company are back.

At the opening of Burbank Town, Johnson's greed and carelessness is shown to the reporters, especially one who dismisses the whole thing as an environmental disaster. As Johnson and his supporters party, the characters suddenly attack and drive the humans out, but cartoon control comes to capture them. One by one, they manage to succeed and Star realizes they need more help. With him the last one standing, Star goes with Mickey and Minnie Mouse (Russi Taylor) to Spider-Man who tries to kill him but Star's plea for help and reasoning that no matter what all animals are just animals who need help from each other as well as him saying that without his friends he has nothing to live for he spares Star and agrees to help her, Mickey and Minnie. After doing so, Agreeing to stop Johnson, they find Mr. Iger, the former CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and inform him he must organize a company to raise the money, which appears difficult since his retirement. After Star convinced him to try, Mr. Iger sets off with the three and the mouse gang to save the Disney company and studio.

Star, Mickey, Minnie, Spider-Man and his team and Mr. Iger help Marco and the others escape the exterminations truck and go back to trash the amusement park, which attracts the attention of the police, who arrest Hunter and Leslie for animal abuse when they try to dart Catty, Timon, and Pumbaa only to end up darting Leslie by accident. To avoid being sent to jail, Leslie tries to escape using a hot air balloon but Star, Marco, SpongeBob and Mickey use a roller coaster to catch up. SpongeBob slings Mickey, Star and Marco to the balloon where they battle and Mickey manages to win by using the mayor's own umbrella/cane against him, sending him flying and landing on a bouncy house where Spider-Man and his team fight him and Mr. Iger gets mad at him, firing him, getting his company back while the police arresting him.

SpongeBob uses a forklift to destroy the roller coaster as a sign of victory and hugs Star, who adores the hug, hugging him back. With Johnson gone and Iger returning, the humans of the city rebuild the Walt Disney Company and the Walt Disney Studios in a mater of weeks. During that time the characters finally go back to gathering food for themselves, Spider-Man and his gang move into the studio to practice shooting webs and Catty is now friends with Timon and Pumbaa, enjoying eating grubs.

Like at Walt Disney‘s grave, Walt Disney’s spirit returns to visit Star and the others, as well as Catty, Mr. Iger and Spider-Man, Miles and the other, thanking them for saving his studio from Johnson, and then departs again. Mickey rides on the boat from Steamboat Willie to take Star and Marco on a ride. Star allows SpongeBob to come to the boat with her and Marco. SpongeBob tells them that he isn’t sure because he works with Mr. Krabs and hangs out with his friends Patrick and Sandy, but Mr. Krabs, Sandy and Patrick allow SpongeBob to, much to his surprise. He excited then runs to the boat for Marco and Star.
