Square One: Cancelled is a 2004 American live-action/animated comedy film produced by Village Roadshow Pictures and Warner Bros. Animation. It is based on the series, Square One, which aired on Kids WB! from 1995 to 1996 and is about Alex and his friends trying to get their show back on the air with the help of WB employee, Gina (Rosario Dawson) while their arch-nemesis, Mr. Anvil teams up with a greedy businessman literally named Mr. Greed (Mark Hamill) who wants to get rid of all cartoon characters. The movie was released on May 7, 2004 by Warner Bros. Pictures to mixed critical response and bombed at the box office, grossing only $71.3 million. Overtime, it started to gain a cult following. The theatrical release was preceded by the Looney Tunes short, Daffy Duck for President.

After Square One was cancelled in 1996, creator John Penn wanted to cap off the series with a satisfying end, as the show didn’t get a proper series finale. In 1998, Penn pitched the idea of a Square One movie to Warner Bros., but was declined. It was pitched again in 2000, and was given the greenlight by them. The movie was originally going to be fully animated, but Pete Browngardt suggested to make a live-action/animation hybrid similar to Space Jam and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Shooting took place from May to August 2002. The animation process took place from November 2002 to September 2003.

Square One: Cancelled received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 44% approval rating and an audience rating of 68%. The consensus says, "Square One: Cancelled is fun enough for fans of the series, but might be a boring, monotonous slog for others".
