Spinel: Origins is an American animated television special based on the series Steven Universe. Or, more directly, the movie based on the show. Produced by Cartoon Network Studios, the special was created by Rebecca Sugar.
The film shows the heartwarming story of how Spinel was chosen to be Pink Diamond's playmate. But, unfortunately, when Pink finally got the chance to have a planet to her very own, she left Spinel on the garden for over six-thousand years.
Spinel: Origins was released on Checker on December 24, 2021, followed by a Cartoon Network release a day later.
Synopsis[]
Young Spinel has always wanted to be the playmate of Pink Diamond, one of four diamonds in the Great Diamond Authority. Thanks to her best friend, who knows quite a lot about how to become an apprentice to the diamonds, Spinel is chosen to be Pink's playmate. But after a while, Pink grew tired of Spinel, especially when she was given the chance to have her own planet, Earth. So therefore, she abandoned Spinel on her garden for over six-thousand years.
