Sonic X Skylanders: A New Beginning is the third film in the Sonic X Skylanders franchise. It is the sequel to the Sonic X Skylanders Academy series as a whole. It is modeled after the Youtube fan movie in works: Skylanders: A New Beginning, made by Brent Walters Studio.

Synopsis[]

Taking place after the series finale, nine months have passed the final fight against Strykore and Spyro, Scratch, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are on the road to find Spyro's ancestors and Scratch's mother and fellow feathercat kind. They will encounter old friends, new friends, and some familiar adventures that will change the very future of Skylands as they know it.

Plot[]

Nine months later, in the Underworld, namely in one of the caves, a purple smoke being with purple eyes and a feminine voice talks about Strykore's attack from Season 3. Due to the attack, she believes that good and evil forces have shifted and claims she is a step closer to victory, She tells Malefor to do his promise as he foresaw the reshaping of Skylands. Malefor didn't expect it to be so soon, knowing it has been a decade (10 years) since his previous encounter with someone. Calling it short, Malefor suggests waiting for a few more years but it is denied by the smoke being, asking to know if Malefor forgot of what she did for him and how easily it would be taken away. She then asks for Malefor's compliance, to which a reluctant Malefor agrees to.

In the night sky, Spyro, Scratch and Tails fly around with Eon's spirit (who is now only a head) while Sonic and Knuckles ride on the respective dragon and feathercat's backs. Scratch and Tails are the most excited to finally see Spyro's ancestors, Scratch's mother and her fellow feathercat kind. This reaches to the point where Scratch makes a wild theory that Spyro's ancestors could also be the size of an ant, which is denied by Sonic, prompting her to reiterate and wonder if they could be a dragonfly's size.

The group soon arrives in the Falling Forest, where they witness a portal forming in a large crater; near the same place where Spyro's egg was found by Wynter, meaning this is the portal that Wynter and her group discovered. Eon explains that the portal will lead Spyro and his group into an alternate dimension, he is unable to join them due to a mysterious power that only gives him enough power to lead them to the portal (explaining why he is only a head now) and is only able to inform the group that, while he doesn't know what they'll experience there, but he knows that they are strong and smart enough to figure out the rest. Eon fears that if he enters the portal, he would be lost or even disappear from existence forever. Although saddened to know that Eon is unable to accompany him, the group nonetheless thank him for his help before they enter the portal. As they do, Eon tells them that every 100 days (3 months) and at sunrise, the portal will be opened, but at the end of the day that the portal stays open, the portal will close and the group will need to wait another 3 months before the portal opens and the group is able to go through the portal and travel to the other world from Skylands again.

At the same time, Hex, Skull and Cynder finish a final training test that is hosted by Cali (a female ace mabu air pilot), Midnight and Stealth Elf. During the session, Cynder unwittingly uses her psychic power of locating lost items and people and finding the best routes in Skylands after getting struck by Midnight's fire breath attack. The result leaves everyone unconscious but the cadets pass the test after getting the item needed to pass it. With this in mind, Stealth Elf congratulates the students for completing their test, believing that they are ready to become official Skylanders. As Hex and Skull pick a restaurant to celebrate their win, Cynder leaves with the statement that she wants to do something first, leaving Midnight concerned. Outside, Cynder uses her psychic powers to find something but has no luck. Midnight comes over asks if she found 'them', but she sadly shakes her head and leaves. Midnight is also saddened before leaving, unaware that he and Cynder were watched by a familiar grey furred and black feathered feathercat.

Meanwhile, Spyro and his group finally enter the alternate world after a crazy portal ride. As they recover after hitting a tree, they find themselves in an unfamiliar forest before encountering a glowing yellow male dragonfly stuck in a strange purple flytrap-like plant. Despite the surprise from the dragonfly, Spyro promises to help the dragonfly escape his predicament despite the latter's statement that he is able to escape. When the dragonfly finally relents and asks for help, Scratch teasingly recalls that he didn't help, prompting him to practically beg for help and state that he will help them back if they let him go. After talking with his friends about needing a guide, Spyro agrees with two conditions; One. He asks for the dragonfly to show him and his friends the way to Spyro's dragon ancestors and Scratch's feathercat kind, Two: He also asks for the dragonfly to stop being a jerk and thank him and his friends for helping the group. The dragonfly agrees to this and the five work together to get their new ally out by having Spyro and Scratch dig out the plant as Tails uses the blades of his Gizmo Wing boomerang to cut off the roots so Knuckles can punch the stem on the ground to get the plant to open its petals while Sonic gently but quickly catches the dragonfly in his hands. After warning him about what was going to happen, they initiate their plan and it works; the dragonfly is free. Despite the dragonfly's annoyance at their plan, he nonetheless lives up to his promise of helping Spyro and his friends find the dragon's ancestors and Scratch's feathercat kind once Tails reminds him. However, the dragonfly doesn't know where exactly where the dragons and feathercats are at but believes that their best bet to find them would be at the Crystal Dragon Mountains, which are located north from their location. With that in mind, they head north to find the Crystal Dragon Mountains. While doing so, the group learns of the dragonfly's name; Sparx, as Sonic asks what the alternate world is called; which, unknown to him and the others, is Avalar.

Back at the academy, Jet-Vac, Hugo and Cali are playing chess with the Sky Baron struggling to make a move, yet they are unaware of a feathercat-like figure sneaking into the school through the window. It is Scarlett, who somehow survived her battle with Spyro. Cali briefly hears Scarlett fly pass by the room she, Hugo and Jet-Vac are in but she doesn't see the wicked feathercat. Scarlett quietly enters Cynder's room and casts some sort of spell on her, which makes the sleeping violet dragoness have a nightmare about a rock pillar with a purple magic ball forming as the corpse of Spyro is seen near it. This frightens her awake before she sees the photo of herself and Spyro on her desk and sullenly leaving the room. Outside, she has her head on the same small wall where she first discovered her electric breath before Midnight and Stealth Elf approach her, with the elf asking if Cynder is planning to travel alone. She then explains that she and Midnight want to go with Cynder to find Spyro, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as the elf refuses to let a cadet go alone, needing a supervisor despite Cynder's worries about how long the journey will be. With this in mind, they need to solve one problem; Midnight and Cynder can fly while Stealth Elf's SuperCharger vehicle is not built for long travels. Midnight then states they are not taking the SuperChargers as Cali arrives with her own personal airship, wanting to help the elf and dragons find Spyro's group. As they prepare to go on their mission, they are unaware of Cynder's eyes turning pure white with no pupils or irises while Cali, Midnight and Stealth Elf talk elsewhere as Scarlett watches the ship fly away from the distance at the same place the elf and dragons were at.

Back in Avalar, Spyro's group flies near the edge of the mountain before stopping to rest for 10 minutes after Tails and Sparx start to get worn out despite Scratch's dismay on the subject, prompting Sparx to sarcastically wonder if he should have stayed trapped in the plant he was in earlier. Once they land and rest, they hear loud footsteps and turn to see, much to their surprise and shock, a full-grown dragon walking towards them, unaware of the newcomers. They hide in a bush to avoid the dragon's path to watch in awe. When Sparx states that there are billions of them in Avalar, this shocks them even more as Knuckles states that there are rarely any dragons seen in Skylands. This nonetheless makes the group even more determined to find Spyro's dragon kind and Scratch's feathercat kind, including her mother. Sparx, however, states that if the group really wants to find them, they would have to speak to Ignitus, a purple dragon who is one of the two leaders of the feathercats and the purple dragons. He states that Ignitus is always traveling around Avalar with his feathercat wife, the second leader of the feathercats and the purple dragons. Due to this, their students are often sought out for a general idea on their location. Sparx then suggests Ignitus' best student; Flame the red dragon, who is often captured by ape pirates alongside his friends for their gladiatorial combat battles. When Sonic asks of where can they find the pirate ship if it could be miles out at sea, Sparx points out that the ship is docked nearby, proving the hedgehog's statement about the ship being out at sea wrong. As the group looks on, Flame is seen behind the bars of the gate while the pirates cheer on and the announcer states the battle's beginning.

Elsewhere, at the Endless Void, Strykore is fuming over his defeat at the hands of Eon and Kaossandra before he encounters the Dark Master. He asks of who she is and how she's here while using his magic to strike her, which does no damage, much to Strykore's shock once she strikes back. When Strykore asks of how she didn't take damage, she states that it does not matter for him as she puts Strykore in a painful magic hold. The Dark Master states that while she won't kill him, she does state that she has a use for him, calling him a 'pawn'. Strykore tries to fight back but is powerless against her hold.

Nine months earlier, sometime around the events of the series, Spyro and Cynder play an extreme game of tag by flying around Skylands while occasionally using their powers. When Cynder is hit by Spyro's Sheepball throw and is knocked out upon impact, to which the sheep didn't like with a displeased bleat at the purple dragon once he lands, he rushes to her aid but is tagged by her tail, revealing that Cynder was faking unconsciousness to lure Spyro into dropping his guard. Spyro calls it foul play, but Cynder states Spyro's quote from the time he, Sonic, Tails, Scratch and Knuckles were training Cynder for the academy admissions test. Later, the two head to the Uncle Merle's restaurant for a food break as they discuss Cynder's tactic, to which she says that it's what Spyro deserves for changing the tag game. Once their food is delivered, Spyro apologizes for not being able to take him and Cynder to a place with a better quality food choice as he is trying to help Scratch and Knuckles use up their Uncle Merle's coupons that they got from Eon, Elf, Sonic, Tails, Eruptor and Jet-Vac, which makes Spyro realize that not all of his friends enjoy the restaurant. Cynder does not mind as she will take whatever food there is as long as it is edible, a possible trait of her Undead element. She then has a bite and doesn't mind the taste but states that she would've liked hers with some salt and is in need of a napkin due to getting some of the sauce on her mouth. She then tries to wipe it off with her paw, but Spyro thought ahead and grabbed some napkins earlier. He then wipes the sauce of her, but this causes them to feel embarrassed after they realize how close their faces are getting and they move back to their original spots while looking away before Spyro stuffs his face in his own meal to get the sauce on his muzzle so it can hide his blush.

In the present day, it is revealed that Cynder was looking back at the memory of that time before Cali uses the last of the firewood and tells the others that they need to gather more. Stealth Elf uses this as the time for Cynder to use her psychic powers to locate where Spyro's group is at. Once she does so, she states that Scratch is alone but nearby the ship and out in the forest that the ship landed at, much to everyone's confusion as Scratch would know better than to be alone in the dark. As Cali wonders why Scratch is alone in the first place without the boys, Stealth Elf states that the answer will be there once they find the feathercat. With that, she, Cynder and Midnight head into the forest to find Scratch but instead find a large tornado in front of them. They quickly rush back to the ship to avoid getting sucked in but while Midnight and Elf make it to the chain, Cynder is dragged in and is sent far from the ship after the tornado dies down. Once she awakens, she tries to figure out her way back but is attack by a purple crystalline being resembling an ape. She runs as fast as she can but it blocks her escape and she is forced to fight back, however, her electricity breath somehow doesn't work and she is knocked out after getting hit. Before she is killed, Scarlett reveals herself and battles against the monster to protect Cynder. She is briefly overpowered but is able to launch a homing laser and destroy the being. Once Cynder awakens, she is shocked at the sight of Scarlett before the grey feathercat tells the violet dragon that she means no harm while stating that being alone in the forest is not a good idea. When the two hear roars similar to the crystal being, Scarlett tells Cynder that they need leave as the being, now known as Petrified Darkness, will return with greater numbers. With that the two leave with Cynder taking the lead to find the ship, unaware of Scarlett's smirk.

On the pirate ship in Avalar, the cloaked Spyro, Scratch, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles (with Sparx hiding in Scratch's cloak) approach to front desk as the echidna; using his experience as a previous gladiatorial arena prisoner, asks where the application to enter battles is. The bored ape merely snaps his fingers and in only a few minutes, they are taken to the gates in the arena by the other pirates, prompting Scratch to sarcastically thank Knuckles for his actions until Spyro tells her that they should at least be glad that they got in without fighting anyone, which is what they wanted in the first place. With that, the group enters the arena once the bars open as the announcer declares the battle's start and Flame enters the arena, asking if the five are ready to be the next ones to go down. Tails nervously states that they don't plan to and wants to end the fight quick just before Flame shoots a fireball at the fox, who narrowly dodges by ducking down. Sonic is angry at this action towards Tails and asks why Flame didn't tell them that he was ready, to which he responds that in the arena, there are no rules such as that, prompting Knuckles to agree before Flame shoots another fireball with his own fire breath. The group dodges and Scratch and Knuckles begin to fight back when they and the others notice that the fireball is somehow chasing them as they try to outrun it, making Tails realize that they are homing fireballs and will only stop once they hit their targets; namely him and his friends, but they can't attack back because it would arouse suspicions from the crowd. Flame becomes bored at the show while Sparx eventually slips out of his hiding spot due to Scratch's running. Spyro trips on his cloak and crashes into his friends, causing them to fall on the ground. As Sonic calls the idea of being chased by a simple fireball 'ridiculous and embarrassing', they look up to see the fireball heading towards them from the sky, much to their worry just before it hits them. The announcer declares Flame's victory but as the winner accepts the praise, he hears something up and is shocked to see that the fire is not hurting Spyro and the others (no longer wearing their cloaks) as they are being controlled by Spyro's ability to mentally control fire. With Flame having lowered his guard from the shock of witnessing Spyro's ability, Knuckles rams him into the wall and holds him back as Spyro disperses the fire and Tails approaches the red dragon with his friends, stating that they are not in the arena to fight, but to ask Flame about his mentor; Ignitus. Once the dust clears, Flame finally gets a good look at his former opponents and is shocked to see a purple dragon and a feathercat who resembles his own step-aunt. This surprises Sonic as he begins to ask Flame about his step-aunt's identity. However, before Flame can answer, the pirates notice the five and go to capture them; namely Spyro and Scratch for an unknown reason. Deciding to put the conversation on hold for now, Spyro asks Flame if he has an escape plan and they rush to the middle just as the pirates begin to enter the arena and surround them. With them being unable to fly out due to the incoming crowd, Sonic asks for what other ideas Flame has, who merely grabs Sonic and covers himself and the hedgehog with his wings, much to Sonic's utter confusion as Flame tries to shush him while Knuckles and Scratch prepare for a fight and Spyro stays close to Tails in an effort to protect the fox. Suddenly, a glowing white dragon-like being flies up, catching everyone's attention thanks to the glowing figure's ringing sound coming from their power as Spyro, Scratch, Sparx, Tails and Knuckles watch on in confusion and the pirates are on guard. Flame then quietly lets them know of he is doing: the escape plan is happening but the group needs to cover their eyes for it to work, hence why he grabbed Sonic. Spyro and Scratch quickly follow his lead while grabbing Knuckles and Tails, respectively, just moments before the being enters the arena and shines a bright light that temporarily blinds everyone. Once the light clears, the dragons, feathercat, dragonfly, fox, hedgehog and echidna are gone as the pirates look around in utter shock and confusion on what had happened.

Later, the group is traveling in a dark tunnel in a hill when Sonic gets his foot stepped on by Tails. The fox apologizes for doing so, stating that it's too dark to really see anything despite Sparx's own light. Scratch is unable to shine her armor's crystals brighter since she needs time to recover from the pirate ship fiasco, so the being who saved them lights up her scales in the feathercat's stead, much to Tails' gratitude. Soon, Knuckles and Spyro see the end of the tunnel and the being, who is a female pink dragon with sky blue eyes, golden horns and wings and wearing a golden collar with a small red heart-shaped gemstone tag, goes to scout ahead in case of any enemies nearby. When the pink dragon named Ember, using her powers to physically become light with no shadows casted to do her job more easily, gestures that it's all clear, Flame silently lets the others know and they rush towards a portal. As Flame enters the portal, Ember turns to her new friends and tells them to enter it before she too enters the portal. Knuckles, Tails, Scratch enter the portal while Sparx sarcastically wonders about what is on the other side before being grabbed by Spyro, who enters it with Sonic. After another crazy portal ride, the five exit out of the portal and land on the ground, dazed, as a male anthropomorphic yellow cheetah named Hunter and a female anthropomorphic orange faun with brown hair and in a green dress named Elora come over to check on them. Once they regain their footing, the five are in awe at the sight of Avalar from a high cliff.

At Cloudcracker Prison, Kaos breaks out of jail with an explosive as he announces his return while Glumshanks deadpans about Kaos' previous plans; such as using the sewers. Kaos then plans his revenge; where he will destroy the Core of Light once he discovers its location again and become the ruler of Skylands (or the Supreme Overlord of Darkness, as Kaos and Glumshanks but it) while trying to find transportation to escape the prison grounds, ignoring Glumshanks' warning about covering their escape before the security finds it by saying he placed booby traps in some soup near the entrance of the cell. Once the guards are near the soup, the booby traps are set off and the guards will be stuck. However, the plan does not work when Kaos suddenly hears the guards trying to find him and Glumshanks, making the dark portal master realize that his assistant was right just before Eruptor arrives and threatens them to get back into the cell. Instead of doing so, Kaos and Glusmshanks make a run for it with Eruptor on their tail as Kaos scolds Glumshanks for not taking care of guards, to which the troll states that they may have still been doing their hobbies at the time just before the lava monster attacks them.

The next morning in Flame and Ember's cottage in Avalar, Spyro is making pancakes for everyone with Knuckles picking the ripest fruits there are in the garden to make them more delicious, the smell of breakfast even causes the sleeping Hunter to bite his own tail. As soon as everyone awakens and enters the kitchen to have breakfast, Tails thanks Ember for letting him and his friends stay at her and her brother's home for time being, to which she also thanks him and the others for helping her and Flame escape the pirates, even if it was unwittingly. Knuckles then states that the group has a long day ahead of them after they finish breakfast: they are headed to the place where the dragons and feathercats live, which makes Scratch and Tails more excited to see a full adult feathercat and more dragons in real life. Sparx thinks they are rushing, but Elora, sympathetic to their plight, states that the five have lived most of their lives in a place where there are little to no dragons and feathercats, explaining why some of them are so eager to see one. Flame agrees with her and decides to make his new friends' wish come true.

Down a dirt path, an excited and over-curious Tails begins asking Flame questions about what kinds of dragons and feathercats there are until the red dragon calms the fox down, telling him that he and his friends will know what kinds there are when they get to their location, where Flame believes that they will enjoy it. Scratch starts to wonder if her mother is still around and is worried that she passed away while the youngrt feathercat was in Skylands, to which Spyro calms her down by stating that Wynter is a strong feathercat and if the worst comes to pass, he and the others will be by her side, which touches her as they side-hug each other. Sparx, however, is nervous about going to their location due to adult dragons and feathercats being larger beings than younger ones and he can't get over the fact that his friends are larger than him. He shares this with Ember while Sonic soothes an uneasy Knuckles by recalling his experience with adult feathercats through his time with his late adoptive father and Scratch's father; Scar, and states that Knuckles will be free to attack the dragons and feathercats if they prove themselves to be hostile.

Soon, they all arrive at an underground cave that is hidden by a rock. Spyro, Scratch and Tails glide and hover down while air-lifting Sonic and Knuckles to a large wooden door lined with gold and a glowing midsection with a dragon head sculpture on the top. Flame enters after they arrive at the door and states that the door is the way to the entrance to the dragon city where the feathercats also live, surprising Spyro at the fact that the dragons and feathercats have a city. Flame continues by stating that the orbs on the door are markings of the various Elemental powers that dragons and feathercats are able to possess (ex. Flame's main Element is Fire), which makes Tails eager to study more about dragon and feathercat culture and what kind of Elements they possess. When Sonic asks of how the door opens, Flame states that the door needs to be fed Elemental energy at the midsection by dragons and feathercats, once it's done, the door will open, However, before Scratch and Spyro can do so, Flame warns them, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles that the dragon sculpture above the door is called The Judge, where it will perform an unthinkable act if it senses any negative thoughts or emotions in the door opener's heart. When Knuckles asks what the act is, Flame is unable to answer due to not knowing the answer, but nonetheless believes that the act is terrible. With that in mind as Sonic states that it would most likely be better to not know of that the act is, Scratch and Spyro hold paws as they use their respective crystal laser and fire breath at the midsection. Thankfully, no negative thoughts or feelings are sensed during the procedure and the door opens. Meanwhile, an adult purple dragon opens his eyes after hearing something as an adult female white furred and purple feathered feathercat also hears something from the cliff she is standing on.

Back at Cloudcracker Prison, Eruptor has successfully recaptured Kaos and Glumshanks and put them back into their cell. Glumshanks soon crosses another tally on the wall with some chalk after Kaos gets another idea.

Community[]

  • Spyro and his group split from Eon's spiritual form in Skylands and arrive in Avalar, the parallel world of Skylands.
  • Nine months have passed since the events of the series as there are outfit changes to some of the characters.
    • From this film and onwards, Stealth Elf has now donned a silver hair bow in her hair to serve as a hair tie to hold up her braid. This was to match Scratch's own purple hair bow that holds her fur-like hair into a high ponytail.
      • Elf has also been given the elven sword that was in the Relic's Room
      • She also has blue grey eyeshadow in a cat's eye style, much like Scratch's own purple cat's eye styled eyeshadow.
    • Hex's dress has a slightly-low cut opening at the chest to slightly expose her cleavage and the sleeves are more medieval-like with her headdress resembling more like a helmet.
  • Cynder, Midnight, Stealth Elf and Cali lead a rescue mission to find Spyro and his friends.
    • Scarlett also joins the team for her own benefit to get even with Spyro.
  • Cynder is briefly turned evil by the Dark Master, but Spyro restores her to her normal self after taking on the Avalarian magic that Spyro had took on.
    • Out of care for his daughter, Malefor lets go of his prejudice towards purple dragons and hatred of feathercats. As a result, he reforms as a more noble ruler and parent. He also approves of Cynder and Spyro's romantic relationship.
  • After the battle against the Dark Master (Scarlett's future self), Spyro and Cynder finally admit their feelings towards one another and begin a romantic relationship that not only starts a new era of peace throughout Skylands and Avalar, but it also ends the feud between the purple dragons and the violet dragons.
  • It is revealed that Spyro's kind; the purple dragons, can use different elemental powers while other dragons can only master one, although Spyro prefers to specialize in fire due to having been familiar with it since birth.
    • As a result of this discovery, Spyro's secondary power to control and/or create fire evolves as he can now do the same to other elements as well.
    • Spyro also gains special Avalarian magic that he chooses to use as last resort in case of emergency.
      • After using the magic for the first time during his battle with the corrupted Cynder, Spyro's horns are now longer and curved. He would have this appearance from then on in the series.
  • It is revealed that Cynder can use her lightning breath as a sort of light source in dark areas.
    • She can also create tornadoes by flying at high speeds, similar to how Sonic can also made a tornado by running at high speeds.
      • These tornadoes can also lure in items or small creatures such as sheep.
  • Apparently, Sonic, Eon, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Tails and Jet-Vac do not like Uncle Merle's restaurant while Scratch and Knuckles and quite possibly Spyro do as the purple dragon mentions that the feathercat and echidna all got coupons from the aforementioned hedgehog, Portal Master, elf, fox and Sky Baron during a flashback where Spyro and Cynder played an extreme game of tag before heading to the restaurant for a food break.
    • Cynder takes a liking to the lizard gizzards of Uncle Merle's despite wanting hers with some salt and was in need of a napkin after having one.
    • This also reveals that Undead elemental beings are able to tolerate any food there is as long as it is edible.
  • It is revealed that Avalar, the parallel world of Skylands, is the home of all dragons while Cat's Eye Mountain in Skylands is home to the feathercats.
    • The purple dragons and feathercats met when a war general was badly wounded and came across the feathercats alongside his lieutenant 1,000 years before the events of the series. Because of the feathercats' compassion and their good nature while healing the general, the purple dragons and the feathercats became forever friends since that day. To celebrate the new union, they made the Dragon University at Skyfalls for the purple dragons to study at before they are given the duty to protect the Core of Light alongside the feathercats; who are sent to the sister school Feathercat Academy to also study to become protectors of the Core of Light. However, the two schools and Cat's Eye Mountain were then abandoned after the Great War due to the purple dragons being sent back to Avalar and were unable to return to Skylands at the time while a majority of the feathercats; namely Wynter and her group, went off on Wynter's final mission to find the dragons.
  • The exploration of Wynter's final mission is revealed: Wynter soon went back to the Falling Forest with her group, namely to the place where she found Spyro's egg and they discovered a rare portal the only appears every 100 days (or 3 months) at every sun rise that disables elemental powers in Skylands, went in it and found the dragons. However, she and her friends have been unable to find a portal to return to Skylands until the events of the film, where Scratch, Spyro, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles discover the portal and soon find the way back into Skylands where Wynter had failed. As a result of the end of the film, Avalar and Skylands have become more easily accessable to all creatures.
  • Scarlett is revealed to have survived her battle with Spyro in Split but soon dies from a suicide attack as a final attempt to kill him once and for all, which also kills the Dark Master.
  • It is revealed that Spyro's biological parents are Ignitus and Gyra.
    • However, Gyra died during the Great War by an enraged Malefor after she resisted the Strykore's dark magic and tried to strike down him down to save her kind. Ignitus would have been able to save his wife, but he suffered an illness that lasted for a few days and his wife didn't want him to continue his duties until he was cured. While he was able to watch over his unborn son, he immediately, without thinking, flew over to the Core of Light as fast as he could as he heard about the attack there but was too late as he watched Eon send his kind to Avalar at a distance.
    • After the War, Ignitus put the unborn Spyro in the Falling Forest before returning to Avalar, where Wynter soon discovered the egg and went on her final mission as a Skylander.
    • Ignitus also has a nephew and a niece from his late brother's side of the family named Flame and Ember, respectively. This makes the red and pink dragons Spyro's cousins, Scratch's step-cousins, Wynter's step-nephew and step-niece as well as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles' step-cousins.
  • Wynter is revealed to have retired as a Skylander and instead is an activist who fights for equality for all kinds of creatures and is the co-leader of the dragons and feathercats alongside her second husband, Ignitus.
    • Before becoming a Skylander, Wynter was famous Cat's Eye Mountain activist fighting for her ideals on equality for all kinds of creatures until she became a warrior and a Skylander.
    • Scratch's full feathercat species is revealed to be a snow leopard - lioness/hawk - falcon feathercat mix. This also reveals that some feathercats can be a mixed breed of predator felines and birds depending on their parents' heritages.
    • As a result of her marriage to Ignitus, Wynter is Spyro's stepmother. This also makes Spyro Scratch's stepbrother and Sonic, Tails and Knuckles' adoptive stepbrother. This also means Wynter is Flame and Ember's step-aunt.
  • It is revealed that there is a counterpart of the Core of Light called the Core of Darkness as the both of them were once a whole piece. But half of it was torn out as a prison portal for the Dark Master (Scarlett's future self). But over the years, the rift that kept it locked away all those years has forced that piece core to be altered into the Core of Darkness. Once the Dark Master was freed, the Core of Darkness was destroyed.
  • Scratch is finally named as the Feathercat Warrior like how her late father was by doing a broadcast to Skylands about the Dark Master's attack, essentially proving her worth by putting her others' needs before her own much like how she did in Skylanders Unite!, where she soon learned to move on from her father's death.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first film that Pop Fizz does not appear, foreshadowing his final appearance in Season 3.
  • This is the first sequel film in the series that doesn't have a number in the title. This is to reflect that the film is the sequel to the TV series.
  • Like in canon, Marsden and Schwartz (the voices of Ignitus and Sonic, respectively) work from here on out, albeit with their characters meeting in a different way than in the canon first live-action Sonic film.
  • Tim Robinson replaces Norm Macdonald as Glumshanks due to Macdonald's death in 2021.
    • Ironically, Robinson did Ugly Sonic in Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers.
  • Patrick Dempsey replaces Jim Cummings as Malefor in the films.
  • Unlike in the main series or other films which introduce Skylanders, Sonic or Crash Bandicoot characters, this film also introduces Spyro the Dragon characters.
  • This is the only incarnation of Malefor who permanently turns to the side of good.
  • Cali makes her debut and will continue to make appearance in other films as Sumalee Montano reprises her role from the Skylanders game series.
    • Her outfit is more based on her SuperChargers attire instead of her original one from Spyro's Adventure to Trap Team.
  • Spyro's new horns resembles his game counterpart's Series 3 appearance.
  • This is the first time Hugo is seen wearing an alternate outfit (sleepwear) instead of his normal attire.
  • This is the only film where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles all meet anthropomorphic animals that are similar yet different than them (Elora the Faun and Hunter the Cheetah).
  • Scenes from Power Struggle and both parts of Raiders of the Lost Arkus are used in the film.
  • Cynder mentions 'Expect the unexpected' from Return to Cynder.
  • The Petrified Darkness from Swap Force makes an appearance in the film.
    • Here, they can also take on a sort of crystalline form of an enemy that requires a heavy amount of power to take one down.
  • Cynder's Corrupted form is similar to her Legend of Spyro counterpart's first Corrupted appearance.
    • Ironically, both the game and the film have the title: A New Beginning.
  • When Malefor asks for more time, the Dark Master does the quote from the Darkness in Skylanders SuperChargers with the same tone of voice: "I've waited long enough!!"
    • Ironically, the quote where the Darkness threatens to take away Kaos' powers is reused as an alternate line.
  • The scene where Hunter bites his tail on accident while he is sleeping is similar to the scene where Tai Lung bit his own tail during his fight against Po in the first Kung Fu Panda film.
    • This is also a reference to when the game counterpart of Hunter had his tail stepped on by accident in Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
    • The film also reveals that long tailed beings like foxes, dragons, feathercats and cheetahs don't like it when their tails are being mistreated (intentionally or not).
  • When Sonic asks of how the door to entrance of the dragon city opens, he mentions if a magic word is needed open the door. This is a reference to the words 'Open sesame' in the Arabic folk tale Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, which was used in Sonic and the Secret Rings alongside some other tales of the Arabian Nights.
