The thief is back from ancient Egypt after 16 years, 7 months, and 17 days of search.
~ Film's tagline

Sly Cooper is a 2029 animated thriller crime action-adventure comedy drama film that will be set 16 years, 7 months, and 17 days after the stealth-platforming video game Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in 2029. It will be about Sly Cooper having travelled into the present day and reuniting with his friends after 16 years, 7 months, and 17 days of absence. It will be rated PG-13 because it has a darker and more serious story than the Sly Cooper games from 2002 to 2013.

Intro plot

It starts with a beginning similar to the secret ending in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, showing Sly (at the age of 45) waking up, surrounded by the wreckage of Le Paradox's blimp in front of a jackal-headed temple and pyramids in Ancient Egypt. He looks to the right, noticing a time machine. He goes in it, bringing him back to Paris in the present day. But he's not on Le Paradox's blimp, he's in the Paris safehouse from Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. He goes out and fights rat troopers (now unemployed due to the defeat of Le Paradox) until his friends that searched for him (except for one, who is absent in the film, likely still searching for Sly) show up. They are all 45, except for one, who is 48. All of them (including the guards) look slightly older than their previous looks: their clothes are slightly low on contrast, they begin to have aging features, such as slight wrinkles, slightly slower movements, etc. Sly and his friends then reunite after 16 years of search. One of the friends is currently still searching for the thief himself. It then shows the Fiendish Five members (the frog, the dog, and the alligator) in prison, and then escaping jail to find the thief and battle him again after 16 years. They are also shown older, like the Cooper Gang and the guards, but still retain their original behavior.

Differences from the games

  • Mz. Ruby now speaks Haitian Creole instead of English.
  • The three remaining Fiendish Five members will join a new group called ???
  • All characters (except the ancestors and all guards are shown older in appearance: the masks on most guards have rust and dust, they all have aging features, such as slight wrinkles, slightly slower movements, etc. Some guards, particularly flashlight guards, have walking sticks, because of them being very old (age 60 to 100).
  • There will be five new time periods, including the one scrapped from Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.
