A Silent Broadcast Party is a radically new form of playing music for groups of people that does not require speakers or extremely loud volumes. Instead, all the listeners could wear headphones.

Ever been to a concert that was just way too loud? Couldn't hear the words? Want to kill the sound man? With a Silent Broadcast Party, YOU could control your own mix of sound!
For dance parties[]
Imagine a large gathering of people dancing the night away to a variety of simultaneous DJs- without disturbing the surrounding neighborhood. One or more DJs broadcast programming over one or more frequencies to headset wearing participants.
Advantages[]
You could be dancing to Old School Funk right next to your Electronica neighbor. You'd also have the option of taking your headset off and having a voice level conversation. Especially in conjunction with a flashmob event- where the noise of speakers would bring the law instantaneously- this silent FM broadcast method would no doubt buy the party a lot of time and might well remove the policeable aspect of such an event. Plus it would be a lot of fun to look at!
Disadvantages[]
Expense[]
The headsets could be very expensive. If the people controlling the event have to provide the headsets, then theft could be a huge problem.
Vibrating Bass[]
The feeling of vibrating bass currently caused by huge speakers would be lost.
There might be some way to create a similar vibrating feeling without generating a huge amount of noise if anyone thinks this loss is important. The audience could be standing on some kind of surface that vibrates in sync with the rhythm, for example.
Possible loss of some of the social aspect of the music[]
People might respond, "That would be boring!" or might have trouble becoming comfortable with the new conditions.
Methods[]
- The music could be broadcast over FM radio.
- The music could be broadcast over some kind of wireless network.
- The music could be broadcast to cell phones.
- The music could be broadcast over AM radio to multiple party sites over a larger area.
- The music could be broadcast over the internet to the entire world.
- If the FCC rules were to change to allow the vision of the original creators of AM radio that programs could be broadcast to an area as large as the entire United States, that could help.
- Multiple "party" sites all over the world could be in sync with one another. You could be dancing in sync with someone who is next to you in physical space and with a live video of a friend dancing in another part of the world.
