The School Life series started in 2004 as the second major franchise by the company, followed by a sequel in 2007, and a prequel in 2012. In 2005, Film Roman became the main distributor of Basic.ly Studios films until 2013, when they lost the rights to the films, with Paramount now handling the distribution rights since. In 2015, Basic.ly Studios becme Basically Animation Group, also known as BAG Studios, but the studio went on a three-year hiatus in 2016, until 2019 when School Life: The Three was released.

In 2022, Basically Animation Group changed its name to HarrisMedia.

In 2024, HarrisMedia was acquired by and merged with Shōgun Studios due to financial reasons, Most of its debt was cleared, and the studio made a comeback. The It's Funneh Movie franchise was permanently canceled due to legal issues with its creator.

As Shōgun Studios

Shōgun Studios started in Zionsville, Indiana in 2011 as Indy Movie Studio Inc. with the movie "The WWE Movie". It was released to mixed reviews. The studio would later rename itself to Shōgun Studios in 2014.

The studio relocated to Noblesville, Indiana in 2018 and temporarily changed its name to Baldi Video.

On July 11, 2024, the studio acquired HarrisMedia from Paramount Global (Now Paramount Skydance) and since this period, all films made by HarrisMedia are now under the Shōgun Studios name. Clermont Vs. Sacramento is the first film to use the Shōgun Studios Animation name.

On September 8, 2025, Shōgun Studios rebranded with a new logo and with that, put more priority on Undertale/Deltarune content. That same day, Westley stepped down as COO after fourteen years with Shōgun Studios and its predecessor HarrisMedia, however, Berdly will continue as a filmmaker and as CEO.

On October 23, 2025, a new intro featuring The Roaring Knight turning into a missile and using magic to make the logo appear was unveiled. It will be used starting with Indy Vs. Daytona and School Life: NextGen.

On December 16, 2025, Shogun Studios announced that it would cease operations after May 2027, as Berdly announced that he will not continue after 2027 due to a lack of ideas and due to Tegna's merger with Nexstar Media Group, as the latter will shut down the studio completely.

On January 12, 2026, Shōgun Studios merged with Illinois-based FusionNation to create ShōgunNation as a result of Shōgun Studios's bankruptcy. This gives them the right to use FusionNation's intellectual property.

Criticism[]

Poorly received films[]

Some of the studio’s weakest media include Climate: That’s Me! The Movie (the worst film made by the studio), the ItsFunneh Movie franchise, and Clermont Vs. Sacramento. Berdly canceled the ItsFunneh movie franchise due to it not being faithful to the creator, and to avoid quantity over quality.

Ableism[]

On October 27, 2025, Shōgun Studios was under fire for a scene from Clermont Vs. Sacramento where Tubba Blubba calls Doopliss an "idiot" because of him mixing up the school by going to the newer school instead of the old one, despite Doopliss not being disabled. This was heavily criticized by intellectually disabled people, calling Tubba Blubba ableist. As a result, Berdly agreed to remove the offending scene and replace it with a gag scene where Tubba accidentally left his wallet in the alleyway, and fired Tubba due to his ableist actions, removing his scenes (such as the DoND: Goob Edition in episode 2 of BoTE where he wins the money) with Clermont Vs. Sacramento being reworked into Indy vs. Daytona, which involves Mario and Sans defeating General McGuffin.

According to Berdly, Webber gets Grounded was canceled due to backlash, as the scenes where Webber getting hit hard with a pattle was considered to be discrimination of disabled people. Berdly was forced to step down as a result, being replaced by Alduin Dreemurr, the CEO of FusionNation.
