Animation[]

Animation services for the film were provided by DNEG Animation. The animation was originally 3D animated, but the style was more complex than that of other animated movies. Dindal's contribution was supposed to be hand-drawn CGI, similar to Blue Sky Studios' The Peanuts Movie and DreamWorks Animation's Dog Man, based on the book by Dav Pilkey.

Soundtrack[]

On February 9, the music score was created by Patrick Doyle, who previously worked on the score for the movie The Emoji Movie (2017). On February 17, BENJIxScarlett was announced to contribute a song titled "Notebook of a Windows Kid The Movie Song" while another track, "Snaps It!" by Calum Scott, was also released.

Additionally, three playable characters could be purchased: Crooked the Furry Cat, PoppyRuby, and Mr. Robinson. Other characters from the movie were not available as playable characters.

Spin-offs and Sequel Films[]

Spin Off Films[]

After the release of the following film, Ricky Max announced a film about Petey from Dog Man. However, DreamWorks did not produce the film because it was never set to be involved. Additionally, the film was canceled for unknown reasons.

On February 27, 2026, a company named PerseusGames, founded by Sarah Diane (Ricky Max's sister), acquired the film rights without DreamWorks. However, on March 5, Alibaba Pictures ended its partnership with Hornstromp due to PerseusGames forcing a new partnership. Instead, the company partnered with a TikTok creator and developer backed by ByteDance.

On April 15, PerseusGames announced that the film would be released in 2027 or later. Then, on July 20, during the Perseus Fan-Club 2026 event, the director was revealed, along with the film's title, Petey: The 1st Film. It was also announced that the movie would be released on Netflix, with a streaming premiere date set for July 10, 2027.

Sequel Films[]

On August 1, 2025 during Software Partners Acquisition to PerseusGames, Software needed purchased the assets of Hornstromp Animation from PerseusGames. However, approval was required from its parent company, PerseusGames, to proceed with the sale of the animation studio. After five days, Hornstromp FNF Animation was officially shut down, and its assets were sold to Software Animation.

On January 20, 2026, it was announced that a second film was in production, with the new parent company, Devsisters Corporation, and Fantawild Animation Inc. co-producing alongside Software Animation, KaiKai Enterprise, and Dentsu. Nicholas Perry would reprise his role as Crooked the FurryCat, with new guest star Emma Myers joining the cast.

On August 1, 2026, it was reported that the film would be released in theaters on November 15, 2027. In addition, Sony Pictures was attached to distribute the film. Stefan Ashton Frank, Ashleigh Ball, Lizzie Freeman, and Brittany Cox will return to voice their roles, with Keke Palmer, Lily James, Tim Robinson, Kate McKinnon, Jack Black, and Jeremy Shada joining the cast.
