NC: Hello, I’m the Nostalgia Critic. I remember it so you don’t have to. Remember when I said Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favorite films? I for one didn’t even bother caring it was a commercial for Wonka candies, you will never top it. What’s also surprising is the fact that Roald Dahl hated it, which is why the Tim Burton remake existed in the first place. Upon realizing that, the book wasn’t as good as I thought. No wonder I found the 1971 film better. And to make me prefer Gene Wilder even more, Roald Dahl hated wanting Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.
Oh, and Roald Dahl is racist, sexist, and is an anti-Semitic asshole. So it proves that just because a film isn’t faithful to his book doesn’t mean it blows. And I’m surprised people actually prefer Tim Burton’s remake, because it’s more faithful to the book. Just because a film is more faithful to the book doesn’t mean it’s better or good.
There’s another film from the 2000s that I for one would more than likely earn the same treatment: Charlotte’s Web 2006!
Charlotte’s Web, the original 1973 film is still one of my favorite movies of all time. It was beautiful, emotional, dark, whimsical, and fun! So, as you already know by now, I don’t think I’ll be excited about its remake. Why was this made?? All because E. B. White hated the original film?? Just because a book’s author hated the first film doesn’t mean it’s automatically a bad movie, and that its remake is superior just by staying true.
Besides the fact that E. B. White hated it, the film was also made, because Nickelodeon, who helped produce this movie remake, also did the work on the original classic film’s straight to video sequel in 2003. Not even Fox’s Anastasia would age this poorly. And of course, because Nickelodeon loves modern celebrities, they casted Jim Carrey as Olaf in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Not only that, but they were so proud of their disastrous remake of Yours, Mine, and Ours. How did this film do so well? It’s like Tim Burton’s remake of Willy Wonka all over again!!
Well, I think it’s time I reminded you that the live—action Nickelodeon remake is worse than you remember. So, let’s finally take a look at Nickelodeon’s remake of Charlotte’s Web.
