The Earth-31 in my Marvel/DC Multiverse.

Following the departure of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton after Batman Forever (1995), a series of unsuccessful attempts were made to resurrect Batman on the big screen which put the Batman film series on hold for nearly eight years, until Nolan and Goyer began development on the film in early 2003. Aiming for a darker, more realistic tone compared to the previous films, a primary goal for their vision was to engage the audience's emotional investment in both the Batman and Bruce Wayne identities of the lead character. After the success of The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Warner Bros announced they will continue this version of Gotham City without Nolan or Bale in the form of a Nightwing trilogy directed by Matt Reeves and subsequent spinoffs will follow.
