Nicholas Robert Braugh (July 14, 1943 – October 31, 2016) is a Irish-American children's author known for writing The Crowley Manor, a children's graphic novel series which adapted into an animated television series she co-created, The Ghosts of Crowley Manor.

Biography

Braugh was born in (hospital in Dublin) on July 14, 1943 to parents, Victoria (b. 1922) and Eugene (b. 1919). He had an older sister named Mildred (b. 1941) and a younger sister named Theodora (b. 1946). When Theodora was 4 years old, she and her family traveled to Los Angeles, California.

Before The Crowley Manor

The Crowley Manor

After entering The Haunted Mansion ride in 1987, he decided to come up with an idea about a graphic novel series about ghosts residing in a haunted mansion. He claimed that he watched movies about ghosts including The Haunting, Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice and has read ghost stories like The Haunting of Hill House, which all of these happen to be his inspirations. By the time he started developing the idea, he approached Mildred to suggest a potential plot for his idea. While brainstorming ideas, he decided to write a ghost story about five new owners of a mansion haunted by three ghosts of former owners. The new owners were a butler named Victor, a footman named George, a maid named Isabelle, an 8-year-old girl named Priscilla and a 13-year-old boy named Jacob. He wanted Priscilla to be Victor's daughter and Jacob to be Priscilla's son so he added them into the story.

And as for the ghosts, he gives the ideas of the original owner of the manor, a footman and a maid. He also thought of the personalities for them and the names as well. He named the original owner of the manor, footman and maid Alistair Crowley, Gus and Catherine respectively. The ghosts were inspired by ghosts from The Haunted Mansion with Alistair being inspired by Master Gracey and the Ghost Host and Gus being inspired by Phineas. He wanted Alistair to be loyal and caring, Gus to be clumsy, slow-witted, cowardly and bumbling and Catherine to be sarcastic, cynical and deadpan.

While giving out ideas for Gus' ghostly characteristics, he wanted him to bulge through walls and doors, which was inspired by the bulging doors from The Haunting and The Haunted Mansion.

On October 31, 1990, The Crowley Manor is now published only in the United Kingdom.
