New Ballad of Tobio: The Movie (Japanese: NEWトビオのバラード: THE MOVIE, Hepburn: Nyū Tobio no barādo Za Mūbī) is a 2005 Japanese animated theatrical sports comedy film released on December 17, 2005. it is the second feature film based on the manga following Carl Andy's 1975 American live-action adaptation Toby. the film is a collaboration between Tezuka Productions, Toho Company, Ltd. and Paramount Pictures Japan.

In the United States, the film was released by Paramount Classics in select theaters on Feburary 22, 2008 under the name Toby: The Animated Movie.

Plot[]

The plot follows the manga's first arc, albeit upgraded to the 1980s. it follows Tobio Katsumoto, (Toby in the dub) a 14-year old street orphan who gets into fights on a daily basis before saving Vietnam War vet and Boxing trainer Robert Shmuel. together they become an unlikely team, with Tobio training to become a skilled boxer, however the local town is frequently terrorized by the Mad Mask Gang, run by Maku Kata, this changes when Tobio rescues Italian-American exhcange student Hannah Cacaronie, from there Tobio becomes a foil to the gang's activities. eventually leading to a climax of Tobio along with his Gym buddies fighting the Mad Mask gang.
