Plot[]
As the sun shines down on the city, Nature Cat, Squeeks, and Hal are in a playground and cannot wait to go down the big slide. Meanwhile, Daisy the Bunny and the adult Gwendolyn play on the swings. In the sky, Lulu Ladybug is flying around with Vincent the rat on her back. Vincent hones in on a bush in the ground, spotting a pair of wandering small cats: a tiny, mini Nature Cat and a mini version of One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn) who are running along a building. One of them stop to observe Lulu Ladybug, who has already flew away. The mini cat tries to purr at Vincent, but Vincent doesn't know about the mini cats and what they want. In the playground area, Jingles the cat is sleeping near a row of kiddie playpens. Jeremiah the Woodchuck and Jimmy Cat are standing nearby, observing the playtime. Lola the Flamingo, Pinkus, and Sammy the fox have some fun on a teeter-totter, going back and forth. Vincent slides down the slide, lands on the tail of Jimmy Cat, and then onto Jeremiah's head. Squeeks and Lulu want to do the same except they slide across Nature Cat and into some tires. Daisy slides down before Nature Cat notices the commotion caused by Squeeks and Lulu. As Squeeks is inside one of the tires, Nature Cat helps her balance by going behind the tire and then rolling it slow and steady, sending them down the alleyway. They slow down in front of a tree and stop to catch their breath, in which Squeeks gets out of the tire.
Nature Cat (with Squeeks on his head) climbs up into the tree and notices the mini Nature Cat and One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn). This time, the mini Gwendolyn pulls its face and teases the mini Nature Cat. She's the rambunctious younger half, and the mini Nature Cat is the protective, reserved older half.
When the mini Nature Cat starts walking onto a narrow beam and is about to fall off, Nature Cat (with Squeeks on his head) rushes into action, taking position on a precarious flagpole and calls out just in time. Mini Nature Cat manages to regain its balance and returns to the safety of the building. While the trouble was prevented so that it didn't occur, he ends up being attacked by a flock of pesky woodpeckers for being on their flagpole. He ends up hanging above the city block on a rope, which a woodpecker begins to untie. However, butterflies come and fly in front of the woodpecker, distracting it. Nature Cat has to fly through the air, air walking across a horde of butterflies and lands on a window cleaner's bench, sending the window cleaner, who is Ronald the lilac overweight tabby cat, slamming into a billboard. Nature Cat saves the two mini cats, who befriend him and Squeeks. This is only for him and Squeeks to find out that they now got separated from the rest of the other animals. They don't hear him when Nature Cat calls out to the animals, so when he believes the cats are returning him and Squeeks to the park, they instead have other ideas.
The mini cats take Squeeks (who is still on Nature Cat's head) and Nature Cat on an elevator and they use a playground slide for a ride, which caused Nature Cat to get more depressed, and they reach the end of the slide and get up. Then the two mini cats purr at him as their way of teasing him. Squeeks tells their intentions to Nature Cat. They go over a stream of water using stones and notice a ferry passing by. Above them, a drawbridge is opening up, which is about to hit the ferry, so the three cats construct a raft to escape from the drawbridge as fast as they can. Suddenly, a whale picks up the raft and launches it with it's blowhole. They reach an empty dock and get off their raft. They breathe a sign of relief. They run through the city alleyways but then they encounter Bad Dog Bart. After Bad Dog Bart wakes up, he recognizes Nature Cat and begins chasing him, Squeeks, and the two mini cats. Reaching a dead end in the process, the mini Nature Cat and One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn) confront Bad Dog Bart, who steps up to them. They try to meow loudly as a way to protect Squeeks and Nature Cat, but it's no use, since they're just kittens. They collapse on the floor, useless.
An even more enraged Bad Dog Bart goes after Nature Cat and Squeeks (who is still on Nature Cat's head). But Nature Cat picks up the two mini cats and climbs up a steep hill over the dead end. Bad Dog Bart chases him. While running with the passed out mini cats in hand, Nature Cat had an escape plan to prevent the dog from catching up to him. He uses a springboard which makes him easily get away from the dog. Bad Dog Bart barely misses when he tries to jump onto the springboard, but he rolls right over into a garbage dump pile and gets all messy. Nature Cat lands on a mattress and taunts him before he leaves. On the other side, Nature Cat has arrived in his backyard. The mini Nature Cat and One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn) are awake and feeling better! They're so happy that Bad Dog Bart is gone and they're celebrating like crazy. But Nature Cat's not feeling too great after that close call. Nature Cat, Mini One Eared Winnie (Gwendolyn), Squeeks, and Mini Nature Cat look to a mysterious clubhouse. They knock on the door and out comes mini Daisy the female rabbit, Mini Squeeks the female blue-grayish like mouse, and Mini Hal the orange Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. A mini version of Ronald even appears, but this Ronald has a good side. The mini animals see the adult Nature Cat. They begin hugging Nature Cat like crazy. The hugs continued and then they played in the clubhouse with the adult Squeeks joining in the fun activity. The Mini One Eared Winnie (Gwendolyn) and Nature Cat think Nature Cat is a father to them since he's caring for the mini Nature Cat and One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn), when in reality, he's only been getting them out of trouble.
After the clubhouse fun, the mini Daisy the rabbit, the Mini Ronald the purple cat, the Mini Squeeks the mouse, and the Mini Hal the dog leave for the day. Nature Cat knows he needs to leave and go to the park before his friends find out that he (and Squeeks) were missing. Eventually, Bad Dog Bart arrives in the yard and corners him, forcing him to once again face him with Squeeks, mini Nature Cat and One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn). Unlike last time, mini One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn) doesn't back down and again steps up to fight Bad Dog Bart. Mini Nature Cat refuses to fight and clings to Nature Cat, very scared, and begins shaking. Squeeks watches, enraged at Bad Dog Bart for coming in at them like that.
Like before, they are chased around the entire place and Bad Dog Bart begins to knock over objects like trash can bins and benches. The clubhouse that they had fun in earlier begins breaking as the animals run around in and out. A tire hits Bad Dog Bart and is buried under it. Bad Dog Bart comes out okay, but the crash alerted Mini Daisy the rabbit, Mini Ronald the purple cat, Mini Squeeks the mouse, and Mini Hal the dog. They learn about what happened and they, along with Mini One Eared Winnie (Gwendolyn) and Nature Cat, Nature Cat, the adult Squeeks, and Bad Dog Bart help them repair the clubhouse. They celebrate after fixing the clubhouse, and then when Bad Dog Bart says sorry for what he's done, the mini cats, Squeeks, Nature Cat, and Bad Dog Bart now make amends. The clock tower strikes, prompting Nature Cat to once again put Squeeks on his head and then he runs off. Without the help of the other cats, he and Squeeks wave goodbye. Then they go on their way. The Mini One Eared Winnie (Gwendolyn) and Nature Cat think Nature Cat's up to something, so they think of something to help out Squeeks and Nature Cat. As the sun sets, Nature Cat is on the run, until Mini One Eared Winnie (Gwendolyn) and Nature Cat catch up to Nature Cat in a small wagon and tell him to get in. The adult Ronald, who is once again window cleaning on another bench, laments about his life until the wagon passes by below him, making him get soaked with the water.
At the park from earlier, Jimmy Cat, the adult Hal, Jingles, Lulu Ladybug, the adult Daisy, the adult Gwendolyn, Vincent, Jeremiah, Lola the Flamingo, Pinkus, and Sammy the fox get worried that Squeeks and Nature Cat didn't return. After a while, Squeeks, Nature Cat, and the mini cats arrive. They are relieved to be back and done with their adventure. Nature Cat looks around, only to find a cake that celebrates the day when he first went on his first nature adventure: November 25, 2015, meaning it's been 9 years since it happened. The mini Nature Cat and One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn) were bouncing up and down with excitement, their little paws waving in the air. After eating the cake, they then watch the fireworks together.
Trivia[]
- The mini Nature Cat and the Mini One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn) are actually the toddler versions of Gwendolyn and Nature Cat, but instead, they can't talk like their adult counterparts and they can only interact by meowing and making other cat noises in this short. That means, Squeeks will have to translate certain words to Nature Cat.
- In this short film, Ronald is seen working as a window cleaner.
- This short is visually similar to Pikachu & Pichu.
- Jingles, Pinkus, Lulu Ladybug, the adult Daisy, the adult Gwendolyn, Vincent, and Jeremiah do not have any speaking roles.
- The Mini Squeeks, the Mini Hal, the Mini Ronald and the Mini Daisy are actually the toddler or baby versions of their adult counterparts. Unlike the mini Nature Cat and the Mini One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn), they can speak human language.
- Flo the Heron and Marvin make a short cameo after the raft docks at an empty dock.
- There is no narrator for this short film.
- Nature Cat sees a cake in the playground which celebrates 1 year of his time as a backyard explorer. Although the cake states that it has been 1 year since Nature Cat was first shown on PBS Kids in 2015, Nature Cat himself did not age. Not to mention, this short was aired on the same day that Nature Cat was first shown on PBS Kids in 2015 (November 25, 2016).
- In one scene, Mini One Eared Winnie (a.k.a. Gwendolyn) is seen playing with a yarn ball in the clubhouse.
