Mortal Kombat Zero is an American action-thriller fighting video game, serving as a spin-off to the Mortal Kombat series. It is developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, being released for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on October 13th, 2022.

Synopsis[]

Set in the timeline where Shang Tsung took over, he grew tired of ruling over the realms and recreates the timeline, making everything chaotic and messed up, however, he forms a Mortal Kombat tournament to see if anyone can actually prove a challenge to him as a heroic rewritten Shinnok forms a team to defend and liberate the realms at the tournament.

Timequake[]

After Shang Tsung's death, Shinnok focuses on rebuilding the realms and taking care of Shang Tsung's remaining forces, including Raiden, when a slave girl suddenly begins to warp time and space as Shinnok learns that girl is Kronika and if not controlled, the multiverse will be destroyed as his forces alongside several figures across the multiverse, native to the prime multiverse and pulled from outside, have to find and calm down Kronika.

  • Shinnok (voiced by Matthew Mercer) - a dark god who in the recreated timeline, has grown a fondness for the residents of the realms and a hatred towards Shang Tsung and his rule, forming a team of changed warriors to fight against Shang's rule at the tournament.
    • Fatality 1: Portals and Death - Shinnok creates dark magic portals around the opponent, and grabs his/her arms and legs, which are sliced apart when he closes them. Shinnok creates one more portal around the opponent's head, and closes it, decapitating him/her.

  • Shao (voiced by Ray Chase) - an Outworlder who Shinnok found and raised as a Shaolin Monk, seeing him as the champion of freedom, as he leads the charge against Shang Tsung, wielding a hammer as a weapon.
    • Fatality 1: Hammer Time - Shao breaks his opponent's leg with his hammer, pinning him/her down. Then, he crushes his opponent's hand into pieces with his spiked foot. And then, Shao hits the opponent's head with his hammer, decapitating him/her and sending the head flying away.

  • Bi-Han/Scorpion (voiced by Leonard Wu) - the heir to the Lin Kuei who after standing up to Shang Tsung's rule, was executed by his own younger brother, Kuai, being brought back by Shinnok as a wraith from Netherrealm, deciding to fight for liberty.
    • Fatality 1: Fires of Hell - Scorpion empales his opponent with his sword, removes his mask to reveal his fiery Skull, and breathes fire in the floor. Then, he throws the embalmed opponent into the fire, sending him/her to Netherrealm, as the opponent is consumed by Netherrealm demons; one of them flies away with the opponent's decapitated head.
    • Fatality 2: Get Over Here! - Scorpion summons a fiery portal behind him, and dozens around his opponent. Then, he fires his Kunai spear into the portal behind him. Numerous Kunai spears then appear from the portals summoned around opponent, grappling in his/her arms, legs, head, and chest. Then, Scorpion pulls his spear, causing the duplicates to rip the opponent's limbs apart.
  • Kuai Luang/Sub-Zero (voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch) - Bi-Han's younger brother who is loyal to Shang Tsung's rule, being granted rule over the Lin Kuei after killing his brother, fighting in the tournament for Shang Tsung.

  • Kano (voiced by TBD) - an Australian part-time actor, part-time bounty hunter allied with Shinnok against Shang Tsung's forces, gaining a mechanical eye after a grizzly altercation with the corrupt Special Forces.

  • Mileena (voiced by Jeannie Tirado) - the daughter of the deceased Queen Sindel and the sole heir to Edenia who struggles with the ruling of Edenia, being convinced by Shinnok to fight for him to avenge her mother's death.

  • General Kotal (voiced by TBD) - the peace loving general of Edenia's army who is allied to Mileena, believing she will bring peace to Edenia.

  • Jax Briggs (voiced by TBD) - the head of the Special Forces who is equipped with four cybernetic arms, being rather sadistic and loyal to Shang Tsung.

  • Nightwolf (voiced by Amber Midthunder) - a young tracker from a Native American tribe who is adept to spiritual magic as she is found by Shinnok and made into a Shaolin monk alongside Shao, trying to control her magic.

  • Hanzo Hasashi/Weaver (voiced by TBD) - an aging former member of the Lin Kuei who defected to become a Shaolin Monk, helping Shinnok train the next generation, using two whips as a weapon.
  • Sheeva (voiced by TBD) - a Shokan bandit leader who was betrayed by Goro when he became the Khan of Outworld as she joins Shinnok's side to just get a chance to kill Goro.
  • Ermac (voiced by TBD) - an amalgam of souls with the primary soul being of the recently deceased Sindel as they wander around, not caring about allegiances, only rest of their souls.
  • Hotaru (voiced by TBD) - the king of Seidou who is obsessed with order and obedience, making an alliance with Shang Tsung due to believing his reign means order, being willing to fight for Shang Tsung to fight for order.
  • Nitara (voiced by TBD) - a bat-based Outworlder who operates as a pirate, smuggling multiple artifacts in and out of Outworld, reluctantly working with Shinnok so her pirate business can be official.
  • Skarlet (voiced by TBD) - a blood-bending witch who was raised by mages in Outworld, being visited by Raiden, offering her a role in his master's empire due to her skills with blood bending.
  • Kintaro (voiced by TBD) - a tiger-like Shokan who is Goro's younger brother and is treated like a freak due to the chances of a Shokan being mammal based to be rare, being found by Shinnok and joins his side.
  • Quan-Chi (voiced by TBD) - a disgraced sorcerer who used to study under the Outworld mages before being banished for showing a love for life, joining Shinnok and being the one who resurrected Scorpion due to believing he needs a second chance at life.
  • Frost (voiced by TBD) - an optimistic member of the Lin Kuei who is secretly allied to Shinnok, planning to find a way to make Bi-Han the Lin Kuei's rightful head.
  • Kai (voiced by TBD) - a younger Shaolin monk known for his rather cocky and care free nature, being considered the most impatient of the Shaolin Monks.

And then, he makes a gun gesture with his fingers, with an invisible shot blowing up the opponent's right hand in pieces. Then, Cage fires another invisible shot, opening a hole in the opponent's chest. And then, Cage gestures that he is pulling a grenade key, and "places the grenade" in the opponent's chest. Then, he poses to the Fourth Wall as his opponent blows into pieces.

  • The only reprisals are from Shang Tsung, Fujin and Liu Kang due to them "surviving the reboot."
    • Initially it seemed Raiden was an exception to this, yet was proven wrong when it was revealed he is voicing God Raiden in the mobile game Onslaught and the mainline Mortal Kombat 1.
