Monty Python and the Lord of the Rings is a British black comedy high fantasy musical adventure film written by and starring the comedy group Monty Python (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin). It was directed by Terry Jones, with animated sequences by Terry Gilliam. The film is an absurdist parody and retelling of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
