Me & My Shadow is the 10th episode of After the Magic, based on the 2024 movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It premiered on June 22, 2025.
Plot[]
Somewhere in the woods, Sonic the Hedgehog is celebrating his anniversary of arriving to Earth with all of the friends he's acquired during his stay so far. Their celebration is interrupted when Sonic, alongside his fellow aliens Tails & Knuckles are recruited by G.U.N. to stop a threat in Tokyo. They immediately jump to the call as the other anniversary celebrators pack up & return to their separate ways. Once there, they meet a black & red hedgehog who wishes to make no conversation with them. When Knuckles provokes him, he wastes no time taking down the group with relative ease, & drives off in a motorcycle.
Persistent, Sonic chases after him all across Shibuya, which also ends in failure as their clash results in a power shortage with the new hedgehog fleeing again. Team Sonic regroups at a local kid-themed restaurant, where they gather the information they need from Commander Walters. Back in 1974, G.U.N. detected a meteorite that landed in Oklahoma. It contained the hedgehog who trounced them earlier, who goes by the name of Shadow, the "ultimate lifeform". His power is experimented on at their research facilities, but he proved to be too dangerous, causing him to be put in stasis indefinitely, while the head of the research team was arrested & taken away.
Much later, they are ambushed by the drones of the seemingly-deceased Dr. Ivo Robotnik, with Walters being fatally injured in the crossfire, giving a mysterious keycard to Sonic before succumbing. In the ruckus, he & his team are saved by a mysterious motorist, later revealed to be Agent Stone, Robotnik's lackey, who denies their involvement in the earlier commotion. They are invited into their hideout, where they surprisingly find their old foe alive, but miserable. Stone explains that he managed to save Ivo from the collapse of the Death Egg Robot, though gravely injured. Robotnik himself becomes an online influencer streamer in the aftermath as well.
Realizing they might be after the same person, Sonic & Ivo's team reluctantly team up to find out who hijacked the latter's drones. When they arrive at an abandoned G.U.N. base, Shadow just so happens to be there as well, picking them all off except Robotnik, who finds out that the person who "borrowed" his technology was none other than his long-lost grandfather, Gerald. He explains that the keycard given by Walters to Team Sonic is 1 of 2 keycards needed to power up the Eclipse Cannon, which he intends to use to destroy G.U.N.'s headquarters to avenge his dead granddaughter Maria, whom Shadow was close friends with during her lifetime.
Ivo is quick to join Gerald due to their familial relation as Shadow snatches the keycard from Sonic & his friends, leaving them to die as the base is sucked into a mini-black hole. Luckily, they escape & make it back to their friends Star Butterfly & Marco Diaz, whom they recruit in taking the other keycard alongside Porky & Daffy. They make it London, where Shadow is also sent out to take the keycard for the villains. Star, Marco, Porky, Daffy, & Team Sonic go in a race against time to ensure they get what they came for before Shadow does while avoiding G.U.N. personnel. In the heist, however, as the crew tries to prevent Shadow from making off with the keycard, Star is put in harm's way as he punches her in the mini-stampede, making it easy for the black hedgehog to take the key for their team.
As the Eclipse Cannon takes flight & Stone is laid off by Eggman, Star is left hospitalized, & while Marco initially insists to accompany her, she refuses, explaining that they might still not be done yet with preventing the end of the world that the Eclipse Cannon is about to bring on. Meanwhile, Sonic, bridled by revenge, demands the location of the Master Emerald from Knuckles. He initially chooses not to reveal it, but backs down to fulfill his part of the truce they made & unveils that the Emerald is now guarded by Janna, Rayna, & Maggie. Sonic is easily able to swipe the Emerald from them & goes out into space to take on Shadow.
Janna, Maggie, & Rayna, who have been avid viewers of Robotnik's livestreams, proceed to report his status to Chief & Dog Man, accompanied by Jenny, Petunia, I.M.P., Porky, & Daffy, the latter 2 parting ways with Team Sonic to gather friends to help stop the Eclipse Cannon. With the help of the Invader & his flying saucer, they reach the Robotniks & stop them. Aboard the Eclipse Cannon, Gerald reveals his true intentions: to destroy the world in such a way that they will be included in the explosion as well. At that time, Sonic arrives & proceeds to duel Shadow until he realizes how far he's gotten & spares him. This also gets Shadow to realize his own mistakes & joins Sonic as they prevent the Earth from being destroyed.
Ivo turns on his grandfather, who rigs the controls to ensure Earth's doom still happens. The 2 fight, but Ivo is easily thwarted. Gerald then proceeds to fight off Janna's team (led by Chief), buying enough time for Ivo, who returns with Marco, Tails, & Knuckles, to knock his grandfather into the reactor core, killing him with a zap as they proceed to reroute the Eclipse Cannon away from Earth with Sonic & Shadow, cleaving off a piece of the moon in the process. Sonic loses consciousness, prompting Tails & Knuckles to rescue him as they re-enter the planet's atmosphere.
In a last-ditch attempt to save the planet, Shadow instructs Ivo to buy him sometime by stabilizing the reactor as he pushes the station away from Earth, while he tells the rest of the heroes onboard to return to safety. Before their sacrifices take their lives, Shadow reminisces on his good memories with Maria, while Eggman sends out a message to Agent Stone, reaffirming their friendship before the Eclipse Cannon blows up. Once Team Sonic gets to safety, Sonic apologizes for his recklessness, as the 3 reconcile & return to Star & Marco's house, with the former making progress in her recovery as they all head out to camp in the wilderness once more.
