The film came out on VHS on May 19th 1994 from MCA Universal Home Video and was later released on DVD from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment in 2004 for the 10th Anniversary of the film and a 4 family features DVD with An american tail Fievel goes west,Were back a dinosaur story and Balto.

Sequel[]

In 1997, a sequel was announced by Spielberg and Wells, in 1998 It was announced that Universal and Miramax would return to work on the film, the film, entitled Legend of Max and Ruby was released on April 16th, 1999.

  • Michael Sporn will be Involved as Animation Consultant.
  • In 2002 a TV series based on Max and Ruby Based on the books was made at Nelvana Limited without the involvement of Steven Spielberg or Universal. It was instead from Nickelodeon.
  • On some prints of the movie (such as the Region 4 DVD), John Cale's version of Hallelujah is replaced with Rufus Wainwright's version, this may be an editing mistake, the standard DVD, VHS, Blu-Ray, and TV airings keep the original version.
  • The movie had it's TV premiere on HBO on September 15th, 1994, and it was later shown on Nickelodeon and CBS in 2002 to promote the Max and Ruby TV Show, in 2012, it aired on Nickelodeon again to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the show.
