Plot
Shortly after the superheroes defeated the forces of Augustus Roman the Regent and his army of Negative Zone insects[4], the Thunderbolts (a group of low-ranking heroes, super-criminals and anti-heroes assembled by their controversial supervisor Tyler Hayward) are sent to dispose of the Mad Titan Thanos, who was reported to be launching an attack on a uninhabited space citadel. The Thunderbolts are, however, overwhelmed by Thanos's forces (which include new monsters called "Klyntauri"), resulting in several recruits getting killed, and the most useful getting captured, while Hayward is arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D. under Nick Fury's commission for the incident. Roman, who became one of the Thunderbolts after Hayward liberated him from prison, willingly defects to Thanos's forces in exchange of the means to rise back to power, and finish what he started. Leading a small pack of Chitauri on the search for the Infinity Amulet (a device which can harness all Infinity Stones), Roman and his squad are ambushed and neutralized by the Avengers' newest members (Jessica Reilly / Spider-Woman, Alana Jobson / Jackpot, Billy Kaplan / Wiccan, and Teddy Altman / Hulkling), who take the Amulet to a safe place away from Thanos's knowledge, and fake its destruction.
Three months later[5], Jessica and Alana are spending time with their families (including Jessica's mother May, and Alana's uncle Max Modell) and their mentors Captain Marvel and She-Hulk, while making up plans for their marriage (which is scheduled on New Year's Eve), while the Fantastic Four visit the Triskelion. Taking advice from Hulkling and Wiccan about the Infinity Amulet, Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Carlie Cooper, Tony Stark / Iron Man, and Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic replace the Tesseract in Jarvis' robot body for a matching duplicate they created with similar energy, allowing them to extract the Space Stone from the Tesseract, and place it in the Amulet. After she helps Miles Morales / Kid Arachnid and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel defeat a pack of Thanos's forces sent by him to raid Attilan, Michelle Jones / Wave informs the others about the Klyntauri, which are genetic hybrids of the Chitauri and the Symbiotes of Klyntar, and the New Black Order, which is composed of the Thunderbolts who were spared, captured and converted into brainwashed cyborgs, as well as Nighthawk, who acted as a mole within the Thunderbolts under Thanos's behalf. As the others discuss a plan to stop Thanos, Hulkling and Wiccan help Vision and Scarlet Witch stop a break-in orchestrated by Nighthawk in the Raft, although Nighthawk escapes with some more villains captured to become Thanos's slaves. With the Mind and Time Stones placed on the Amulet by Vision and Doctor Stephen Strange, the Avengers and Champions are joined by Groot's fellow Guardians of the Galaxy (Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket and Drax the Destroyer), and split in small teams to track down the three remaining Infinity Stones, with Mary Jane Watson / Tigra and others safe-guarding the Amulet, and Carlie, Richards, and Fury monitoring the heroes.
Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulkling, Teresa Parker / Stormranger, Rocket, and Groot travel into Xandar to retrieve the Power Stone in the Nova Corps vault, despite being ambushed by Regent and Black Order members Silver Sable and Red Hulk. As others keep the villains occupied, Teresa obtains the stone, and uses it to defeat the villains, forcing them to retreat, as the Power Stone also causes Teresa's Stormranger suit to evolve into its dormant "Phoenix circuit". Through Regent's discarded communicators, Spider-Man and Captain America discover that Thanos also captured Doctor Octopus[6] and Eddie Brock / Venom, and is using them to create more Klyntauri. Spider-Woman and Jackpot lead Thor, Anya Corazon / Spider-Girl, Wolverine, Drax, and Hulk on the search for the Reality Stone in Knowhere, where they clash with Taneleer Tivan the Collector, before a brainwashed Vulture and a pack of Klyntauri attacks the city. Cloak and Dagger arrive to reinforce the group, distracting Vulture, Tivan and the Klyntauri, while Spider-Girl evacuates with the Reality Stone with Cloak's help. Wiccan leads Gamora, Gwen Stacy / Ghost-Spider, and Captain Marvel to Vormir, where the Soul Stone is located.
They are informed by the Stonekeeper that the Stone requires the sacrifice of a guilty mortal to be earned. A brainwashed Green Goblin suddenly attacks them, but Wiccan forces him to reexperience repressed memories of his son Harry Osborn[7], causing the Goblin to freak out and fall into the abyss to his death, earning Wiccan's group the Stone. With the Stones reassembled, the heroes return to Earth, and complete the Amulet with them. Informed that Thanos's armies are coming, they leave the Amulet in the Titanian Tigers' hidden village, and mount a defense on Earth with tribes led by T'Challa / Black Panther and Chief Soto, whereas Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Hulkling, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four set out to confront Thanos himself in his space station, the Sanctuary X. Several more heroes, including the X-Men and the Inhuman Royal Family, join the battle, eliminating countless waves of Klyntauri descending to Earth. Arriving on the Sanctuary X, they clash with the defending Black Order members, during which Spider-Man, Iron Man and Hulkling reach Doctor Octopus (who has been integrated into the space station's network), and free him from brainwashing, stopping the cloning of more Klyntauri, and rendering the Black Order cyborgs unconscious.
Thanos arrives with Nighthawk, who takes on Spider-Man and Spider-Woman, while others battle Thanos himself. Spider-Woman and Invisible Woman break Venom out of his containment, allowing him to absorb Nighthawk's power chair, weakening him. A repowered Venom attacks and battles Thanos, while Doctor Octopus (making peace with Peter, and voicing remorse over the error of his ways) reveals his plan to teleport the remaining Klyntauri back to the Sanctuary X while dragging the station into a black hole created by Stark's newly developed portal projector. Doctor Octopus teleports the heroes back to Earth and commences his plan, sending Thanos, Venom and Nighthawk to oblivion, and obliterating the space station, sacrificing himself in the process.
With the battle over, and the world safe, Spider-Man places the Infinity Amulet into its temple with the Stones in it, while the freed villains are taken to S.H.I.E.L.D.. Jessica and Alana get married as superheroes celebrate New Year, during which the activated Stones awaken the Multiverse Star, with the Champions' allies from the Legendary dimensions watching with a smile.
In a post-credit scene, Tivan vows revenge on the heroes for stealing "his" Infinity Stones, before an army of robotic flying foxes descend to Knowhere, and attack him.
