Leah Kamakiri (Kamakiri Leah in Japanese order, カマキリ リア in kanji) is the duetertagonist of Skylar and the Hunters. Leah spent most of her life alone, and until she was taken in by the Kamakiris, she had no one. While she has found a loving family, it is still hard for her to trust people, especially due to her secretly being a vampire. She is very protective of the ones she loves, and is more than willing to throw hands if someone tries to hurt them, especially her younger sister, Lily.
In the series premiere, she believes Skylar is actually a vampire, and warns her to stay away from her, Lily, and Sonora. After Skylar discovers that monsters are real, she is ecstatic that Leah is a vampire. Leah does not like this, as she feels being a vampire is more a curse than a blessing. While she holds doubts about Skylar being able to be a monster hunter, she is willing to let Skylar prove herself. Among the Hunters, she serves as the leader, due to her skills and knowledge.
Personality[]
Leah is a girl who is rough around the edges. She knows how to hold her own in a battle, and is more than willing to through down, if necessary. She doesn't trust very many people, as she is worried they might try to use her and her family. However, she is willing to let people prove themselves. Leah is also incredibly sarcastic, and is blunt when it comes to expressing her opinions. She can also come across as threatening at times, especially when it involves loved ones.
Leah hates being a vampire, as well as the drawbacks that come with it. However, she does enjoy the powers that come with it, as she feels they allow for a good attack in battle, as well as fun for her.
Appearance[]
Leah is a light-skinned Caucasian girl with brown eyes. She has long, black hair, in addition red streaks due to her being a vampire.
Her typical outfit consists of a short-sleeved forest green hoodie with dark green accents, a gray T-shirt with a cursive L in red stitching (hid under her hoodie), a white undershirt with gray stripes, a ripped jean skirt, brown boots with red accents, and a blue ribbon tied around her right shin.
History[]
Time Alone[]
Sometime before the events of the series, Leah was just an ordinary human. As an orphan, she spent most of her time alone. One day, she saw a stranger in a black hoodie. Thinking he was a criminal, she ran after him. After a while, she found him in a dark alleyway with a woman. He bit the woman on the neck, revealing he was a vampire. Before Leah could run, the man found her and bit her as well. After a while, she discovered she was a daywalker. Even though she could fit into society, she still decided to hide away until she could reverse her curse. She also spent time training, so one day, she could stop the reign of terror monsters brought.
Meeting the Kamakiris[]
When Leah turned fifteen, she restricted herself from drinking blood for a week. On the seventh day, Leah couldn't handle it anymore and went out to find something to eat. However, due to exhaustion from malnutrition, she passed out on the side of the road. A family known as the Kamakiris stopped the car once they saw her. They put her in the car and took her to the hospital. There, the patriarch, Ken (who was a doctor), discovered Leah was a vampire. With his magical abilities, he hid this from the other doctors, keeping Leah's secret safe. After she woke up, the Kamakiris revealed they were witches to her. After talking to her for a short bit, they offered to take her in. While initially hesitant, she agreed.
For her first few months living at the Kamakiri house, Leah mostly helped around with chores and trained for potential monster fights. One day, Ken and Kiomi (the matriarch) talked to her about going to Michelle Watson Academy. Leah refused at first, as she didn't want to hurt anyone. While they understood, they told her they didn't want her to waste her life just out of fear. After a bit of coercion, she agreed. She was enrolled in tenth grade, alongside Lily. She also met Sonora at this time, discovering there were other good monsters out in the world.
