Katherine Anne Pryde is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, commonly in association with the X-Men. The character first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 (January 1980) and was co-created by writer-artist John Byrne and Chris Claremont.

A mutant, Pryde possesses a "phasing" ability which allows her, as well as objects or people she is in physical contact with, to become intangible. This power also disrupts any electrical field she passes through, and lets her simulate levitation.

The youngest person to join the X-Men, she was first portrayed as a "kid sister" to many older members of the group, filling the role of literary foil to the more established characters. She occasionally used the codenames Sprite and Ariel, cycling through several uniforms until settling for her trademark black-and-gold costume. During the miniseries Kitty Pryde and Wolverine, she was renamed Shadowcat, the alias she would be most associated with, and shifted to the more mature depiction of her subsequent appearances. She was one of the main cast of characters depicted in the original Excalibur title. After joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, she assumes her fiancé's superhero identity as the Star-Lord. As of the series Marauders, she is now informally known as Captain Kate Pryde and The Red Queen of the Hellfire Trading Company.

In the X-Men film series, Kitty was portrayed by young actresses in cameos: Sumela Kay in X-Men (2000) and Katie Stuart in X2 (2003). Ellen Page portrayed the character in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). She is ranked #47 in IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes.

• Kitty Pryde / Shadowcat appears as a supporting character in Ultimate Marvel: Earth-2. One of Peter Parker's friends, this version is depicted as Mary Jane Watson's 15-year-old younger cousin who has raised by her aunt Mary Watson since her parents were needlessly killed by William Stryker. Kitty is a young mutant with the abilities to phase through matter and walk through solid objects (she can also fuse with and hide within the shadows of other living beings and subjects with this power), and shape-shift into a humanoid Linx with increased strength and speed and communicate with felines (both domestic and wild cats). Like her cousins in their werecat forms, she initially wore no clothes in her Linx form (as noted by Jean Grey, who at one point acknowledged that Kitty was "naked for one week straight" since she first transformed) until she begun wearing a X-Men uniform which adapts to her powers. Later, during an encounter with the Metagirls, Kitty begun seeing herself as a Lesbian like Felicia Hardy (as Kitty noticed Aquaria passionately flirting with her, and Kitty was near to return her feelings). Despite initially insecure, she found acceptance of her sexuality thanks to a therapy she had in Peter's support council.
• Kitty (on the alias of Shadowcat) appears in the continuity of Marvel's Spider-Man: Webbed Champion, as well as in Marvel: All New, All Different Chronicles and its Disney+-exclusive spin-off All New, All Different Mutants, voiced in the three shows by Hynden Walch. Like her counterpart from Ultimate Marvel: Earth-2, she is Mary Jane Watson's younger cousin, and has the abilities to phase through matter and walk through solid objects (she can also fuse with and hide within the shadows of other living beings and subjects with this power), and shape-shift into a humanoid Lynx with increased strength and speed and communicate with felines (both domestic and wild cats).
  • In Marvel's Spider-Man: Webbed Champion, she appears prominently in "What Girls Are Made Of", where she and Mary Jane / Tigra team up to stop Mystique and A.I.M.. She later appears in the finale "Legendary Universes, Part 6: Ultimate Alliance" alongside her fellow X-Men, among the superheroes who join the battle against the Regent's army of Insectoids from the Negative Zone.
    • The same version makes non-speaking appearances in Marvel's Superhero Adventures: Infinity War. She is first mentioned during a conversation between Ms. Marvel and Michelle Jones / Wave; the latter is revealed to be her girlfriend. Kitty later appears among the many heroes in the final battle against Thanos's forces. She is later shown attending to Jessica Reilly and Alana Jobson's marriage, next to Mary Jane and Michelle.
    • Kitty Pryde / Shadowcat returns in the show's second Disney+ miniseries Marvel's All-Star Multiverse, voiced again by Walch. In the Free Adventures short series, she is among Peter Parker's friends who join a worldwide road trip on-board their personal jetplane provided by Tony Stark. She is seen in "Seaside Bliss" surfing with Michelle Jones in the same board. In "Under the Sea", Kitty overhears of the story of Michelle's early days as Wave, and has walk with her at the beach, where Michelle introduces Kitty to Lady Elana and Sticks the Badger.
  • In Marvel: All New, All Different Chronicles, she has occasional encounters with the New Champions, the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Kitty also mentions to have once dated J. Jonah Jameson's son John until she broke up with him when Jameson begun to criticize heroes like Spider-Man without sources or evidences. Kitty is also shown in random episodes to have soft interactions with Felicia Hardy / Golden Jaguar, with whom she is revealed in the show's spin-off All New, All Different Mutants to be romantically involved.
