NOTE: before you say something like "1999 is over" or "you weren't even born yet", I know there's no way this would've come out then. This is as if this film did exist in 1999 in an alternate timeline.

Just Friends is a 1999 Japanese-American animated coming-of-age slice-of-life film.

It is influenced by school life anime with a darker tone, also sporting an animesque art style.

In late 1995, Ciera and Araceli, two 12 year old girls, start 7th grade, about to discover the wonders and awkwardness of middle school. Enzo, Ciera's younger brother who is going into 5th grade, starts feeling insecure about himself. He befriends a boy a grade above him named Bryant, and they bond over video games.

A few months into the school year, an exchange student from Japan named Yujin starts attending the middle school and befriends Ciera and Araceli. Enzo befriends him as well.

The film was originally going to be released on November 21, 1998, but was moved in order to avoid competition with A Bug's Life.
