Journey Into Space: A My Little Pony Movie is an upcoming 2020 American animated musical fantasy film based on the television series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, which was developed as part of the 2010 relaunch of the My Little Pony toy line by Hasbro and the sequel to the 2017 film, My Little Pony: The Movie. The film stars the series' regular voice cast reprising their roles alongside the returning voices from the original movie and guest voices Jennifer Lopez, Emma Stone, Nick Kroll, Pitbull, Amanda Seyfreid, Josh Gad, Uma Thurman, Ice-T, and Sam Elliott.
The film is produced by Allspark Pictures and DHX Media, with animation created once again using Toon Boom Harmony, and is scheduled to be released theatrically on October 2, 2020 in the United States by Lionsgate. It also marks the 10th Anniversary of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Synopsis[]
A giant whirlwind sends Onyx Star, Adonis, the weasels, Nike, Discord and the ostriches to outer space and they need to get back home to Equestria. Along the way, they meet new friends who were also stuck in space years ago, space animals, and evil alien ponies who wanted to capture Onyx and his friends and destroy the Earth with a reliquary-cannon after Groff, Maxil, Zio and their minions sold all of their souls for it.

Development[]
On December 17, 2017, Lionsgate announced a second movie was in development. On January 15, 2018, the sequel is in pre-production and that Jayson Thiessen will once again direct and that the movie had been given the title Journey Into Space: A My Little Pony Movie. The film was set to be released on October 2, 2020.
Casting[]
The voice cast of Friendship Is Magic will reprise their roles alongside the cast from the original movie. On February 1, 2018, it was announced that Jennifer Lopez and Sam Elliott joined the voice cast. By April 14, 2018, actors Josh Gad and Ice-T were in negotiations to join the cast. On May 9, Nick Kroll and Pitbull were confirmed additions to the cast. On June 9, Spencer List had begun recording for the film's songs. On July 5, 2018, Emma Stone, Amanda Seyfried and Uma Thurman have joined the cast.
Animation[]
The film will once again be animated by using Toon Boom Harmony instead of the usual animation software Adobe Flash that is used in the television series.
The production crew will once again use simple 3D modeling in Autodesk Maya.
Music[]
The film's official soundtrack will be released on September 18, 2020 by RCA Records.
The film's songs and score will once again be composed by Friendship Is Magic songwriter Daniel Ingram. Recording for the score began on May 28, 2020, and finished on June 24. Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled contributed an original song to the film, "In Space", which is the end credits version. A music video for the song will be released by Entertainment Weekly on September 15. Fitz and the Tantrums and Kesha also contributed an original song for the film titled "Back on Earth", which was used in the film's first trailer. Other artists included in the album are Oly Murs, Ludacris and Andrew McMahon.
Release[]
The movie will be released on October 2, 2020. Theatrically, the film will be accompanied by a 5-minute animated short IDog's Awesome Party from Hasbro's 2005 robot dog of the same name.

Journey Into Space: A My Little Pony Movie will be released on December 15, 2020 for digital downloads with a Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand scheduled for a January 6, 2021 release.
