Hilda 2 is a first-person exploration adventure game developed by Blooper Team and published by 505 Games and was released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Amazon Luna, Valve Steam Deck, Meta Quest, Windows, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Android. The game is a mainline sequel in the Hilda series, featuring the story of Hilda, as she as personal issues with her mother, Johanna. In the game, which is played from a first-person perspective, Hilda must make crucial decisions that will lead to different branches in the storyline.

Gameplay[]

Hilda 2 is a graphic adventure played from a first-person view. The player takes control of protagonist Hilda. Throughout the game, Hilda encounters various non-playable characters who interact with her via dialogue trees. Hilda must make choices during crucial moments of the game, which lead to different branches in the storyline. Hilda's actions and interactions with other characters in particular affect their morality and the state of relationship between them. The game tracks how many players selected which option and lets the player compare their choices to the rest of the player base.

Hilda can interact with the environment and obtain objects, which can then be stored in Hilda's backpack and used later. When Hilda picks up an object, she will comment on them, providing players the backstory for each item and adding context to the world. Hilda's backpack can also be decorated with souvenirs she collects in the world. As Hilda explores various locations, she can also enjoy moments of calmness at designated locations and sketch the environment around her.

Synopsis[]

The game is a sequel, taking place after the first game. This features the story of Hilda, as she as personal issues with her mother, Johanna, which overtime, because she's too overprotective to Hilda, when it comes to finding out who Hilda’s father is, why she’s not a little kid anymore, and how much more something is wrong. Hilda goes on a journey to find her dad and other family relatives.

Chapter 1: Family Issues[]

Story[]

After figuring out who Hilda's father is and stopping TheLightningBird, Johanna is not happy with what Hilda did. She and Hilda got into an argument and Hilda got grounded. Overtime Johanna became stubborn at Hilda, their relationship started to break down. Hilda is not happy that Johanna was being harsh on her. As Hilda continues to find out the truth about her dad and Johanna’s family, it has gone to a point where Johanna was not being reasonable with Hilda.

Chapter 2: Running Away[]

Story[]

For a while, Johanna was being way too overprotective with her daughter. And eventually, it’s gotten to a point where Hilda couldn't take it anymore. After Johanna's actions that went against her daughter's decisions, Hilda finally snaps and runs away from home. Hilda wanted to make her own decisions, so she packed her stuff and walked out of the house right in front of her mother, leaving Johanna in tears. So now Hilda, Twig, and Alfur must find a new place to live. Hilda decides to call her friends, David and Frida to have an overnight sleepover. The next day, Hilda, David and Frida, are now helping her to decide which place Hilda, Twig, and Alfur are willing to stay. While making a decision, it was questioned why Hilda couldn't just stay with any of her relatives. Hilda doesn't know who her other relatives are. So, she and her friends decide to go look for her relatives. Just then, Hilda encounters a mysterious man, where he goes by Keeper of the Bell. When Hilda asked Bellkeeper how he knew her mother, Bellkeeper responded to her and her friends that he used to be friends with Johanna back in the day. Bellkeeper, Johanna, and her eye boyfriend Anders used to go to camp together. Johanna and her cousins had a rivalry with each other, as well as an argument between Johanna and her parents. Johanna always had family issues.

Chapter 3: Meeting Hilda's Relatives[]

Story[]

After the story was told, Hilda, Twig, Alfur, David, and Frida go on a journey with the Bellkeeper to find Hilda’s extended family. When the ground found Hilda’s relatives such as her grandparents, her uncle, and her father, Hilda and her friends get to know them. Later on, it’s gotten to a serious point where the relationship between Johanna and her family painted a dark picture. Like how Johanna wanted to get away from her family, how Anders filled for divorce with Johanna, and other family issues. Hilda’s grandparents, her cousins, and her divorced father explained why they never had a good relationship with Hilda. But then her extended told Hilda that they’re changed people. They regretted what they done to her mother. The fact that they tore up her life, it left scars on that day when Johanna left. Hilda’s father divorced Johanna because their relationship wasn’t working out. Hilda was willing to stay with her extended family, to spend time with them.

Chapter 4: Johanna's Suicide Attempt[]

Story[]

When Hilda goes back to her house to pick up something that she forgot, she sees Johanna attempting to commit suicide. However, Hilda stops her from doing so. When Johanna asks why Hilda stopped her, Hilda wanted to know what Johanna was doing trying to kill herself. Hilda knows she wouldn't let anything bad happen to her mom. Johanna explains why her own life was awful. Her parent’s cruelty damaged her ability to make friends, how she lost Bellkeeper and Ander, why Johanna had a drinking problem, which is why she’s so persistent in encouraging Hilda to make friends, taking her anger out of her own daughter, and why she was so hurt by Hilda’s words. Johanna then said that she lost everyone’s relationship, Hilda is all she has left. She couldn't risk losing her. Hilda forgives her and spends time with Johanna to rebuild their mother-daughter relationship.

Chapter 5: Family Therapy[]

Story[]

Hilda and Johanna finally get some therapy. Johanna explains what's been going on with her relationship with Hilda. The more they go to therapy, the more Johanna becomes a better person, and the more Hilda becomes more understandable. And occasionally, Hilda invites her extended family to rebuild their relationship.

The game will be costing at 30 U.S. dollars, 40 dollars Canadian, 45 Australian dollars, 30 euros, 25 pound sterling, and 4,536 yen on all platforms. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Meta Quest VR headsets, and Steam. The game will be free to download for Xbox Game Pass members, PC Game Pass members, and PlayStation Plus members day-one. The game would also be available on Amazon Luna for 10 dollars a month while also being available for free for Amazon Prime members. Now with iPhones, iPads, and Macs, the game will also cost a full 30 dollars on those devices, similar to how much games like Resident Evil 8: Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Death Stranding would cost on Apple devices like the iPhone 15 Pro and the newest iPad Pro.

Steam Deck and Linux Compatibility[]

The game would also be verified on Steam Deck, which is a handheld gaming PC made by Valve. The Steam Deck uses SteamOS which is based on Linux. Since the Steam Deck uses Linux, many games on Windows will work with Linux using both Wine and Proton. Wine and Proton are compatibility layers that translates Windows games and applications to work on Linux, and they work flawlessly. Most of Windows games will work on Linux and on the Steam Deck via Proton, so there won't be a version specifically for Linux because… Well… There’s no need for it.

The game on Apple devices uses 22 GB of storage. For installation, the recommendation would be having at least 33 GB of free space.
