Serving as a sequel to Hilda and the Sea Kingdom and the final installment in the Hilda film series, it follows Hilda and her friends as they face a foe from their past, and must stop him before he can cause any more damage to their universe.

It received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for its animation and emotional depth, with many of them calling it an improvement over its predecessor.
