Zahn was born in New York City, New York to comic actor Steve Zahn and Robyn Peterman and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. He has a sister Audrey Zahn who is a comedian and actress. His father is of German and Swedish descent and His mother is of English, French Canadian, Irish, Scottish, Swiss and Welsh descent. He attended Lafayette High School where he played Lacrosse
