The giant tuatara (Priosphenodon giganteum), also known as the Argentine tuatara, is a species of rhynchocephalian reptile, related to the New Zealand tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus), that originally lived from the Late Cretaceous of Argentina as an extinct species of Priosphenodon and the genus itself was once extinct, but has since been brought back from extinction by SciiFii and introduced throughout Argentina to help boost biodiversity. As its name suggests, the giant tuatara is the largest known rhynchocephalian, growing on average of about 3 feet (one metre) long and weigh about as much as a small dog. It is a herbivore that primarily feeds on leaves, fruits, vegetables, roots, tubers, bulbs, cycads, ferns, horsetails, using its specialised teeth for shearing plant matter. It is the one of the few known reptiles to have developed high resistance tooth enamel as also seen in mammals. It is a solitary animal that spends throughout most of its entire life alone except during the breeding seasons. The conservation status of the giant tuatara is Least Concern due to successful conservation efforts and the giant tuatara's wide range.
