The Mascarene teal (Anas theodori), also known as Sauzier's teal and Mauritian duck, is a dabbling duck that occurs on the islands of Mauritius and Réunion. The Mascarene teal was once extinct since the late 1690s, but has since been brought back from extinction by SciiFii and reintroduced to its former range. It is a small teal of the Sunda teal (Anas gibberifrons) superspecies of the Anas subgenus Nettion. Its closest relative is the Bernier's teal (Anas bernieri) from Madagascar and, apart from having stronger wings and being considerably bigger (between a Sunda teal and a mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) in size), it is very similar in appearance to that species. The conservation status of the Mascarene teal is Vulnerable due to some habitat loss, and historically poaching and interbreeding with non-native mallards, however, thanks to the conservationists, the invasive mallards have been eradicated from both Mauritius and Réunion, and the Mascarene teal is a protected species.
