Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard, and Dave Cockrum, the character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #194 (July 1979). Felicia Hardy is the daughter of Walter Hardy, a world-renowned cat burglar. After suffering from a traumatic assault by an ex-boyfriend as a college freshman, she trained herself in various fighting styles and acrobatics and, after deciding to follow in her father's footsteps, adopted the costumed identity of the Black Cat. She has the subconscious ability to affect probability fields, producing "bad luck" for her enemies. Throughout her history, Black Cat has sometimes been an enemy, love interest, and an ally of the superhero Spider-Man.

The character was originally depicted as a supervillain and adversary of Spider-Man, but over time the two fell in love, which motivated her into becoming both an antiheroine, and his partner. However, their relationship grew complicated after it became apparent that Black Cat was only attracted to the alter ego of Spider-Man and had little to no interest in the hero's civilian life as Peter Parker. After their break-up, Black Cat maintained her role as one of Spider-Man's most trusted allies and for years the pair shared an on-again, off-again romance.

Since her original introduction in comics, the character has been featured in various other Marvel-licensed products, including video games, animated television series, and merchandise. The character made her live-action debut in the 2014 film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, portrayed by Felicity Jones.

Shortly after her parents Ben and May died in a hospital which was destroyed by a riot which Crimson Spider was too late to stop, Felicia and Peter parted ways until they overcame their grief. In her trip to Africa, Felicia gained enhanced strength, agility and stamina by ingesting the heart-shaped herb, an African plant powered by Vibranium in Wakanda, becoming her country's own "Black Panther". Shortly after the Avengers were banded together following Thanos's defeat, Felicia started a relationship with Mary Jane's half-brother Theodore Altman and, two months after Peter and Mary Jane's wedding, married him and had a daughter named Felicity.
• Black Cat appears in Marvel's Princesses of Destiny, a comic book tie-in for Marvel's Spider-Man: Webbed Champion. She appears in the first issue "The Tiger's Hunt", on which she attempts to rob a museum until she is defeated by Mary Jane Watson / Tigra. It is soon revealed that she was acting as a criminal after being blackmailed by Hammerhead (who had learned of her identity) into stealing devices for him. Eventually after Tigra hypnotizes Hammerhead and his henchmen (and strips them off their memories of every superhero in the world; even the Avengers), Black Cat is reformed and cleared out of her criminal charges, and resumes her superhero activities. Contrast to her appearance in the canon version of the 2017 Spider-Man animated series, Black Cat is redesigned after her counterpart from The Spectacular Spider-Man, with a modified version of her costume.
  • The same version makes a non-speaking appearance in the Disney+ TV movie Marvel's Superhero Adventures: Infinity War. She is shown to have become a member of the Champions following her reforming in Princesses of Destiny.
  • The same version appears in the Disney+ crossover miniseries Marvel's All-Star Multiverse, voiced by Erica Lindbeck. In the episode "Ultimates", she becomes a member of the titular team under Shadow the Hedgehog's leadership.

Waking up, Felicia discovered that she now had cat-based abilities, such as enhanced strength and agility on par with Spider-Man, night vision, and a psychic aura which induces bad luck in its victims through eye contact. Inspired by Spider-Man's heroic performance, Felicia became a superheroine herself.
