Thanos is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer-artist Jim Starlin, and made his first appearance in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (cover dated February 1973). Thanos is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe and has clashed with many heroes including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.

The character appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by Damion Poitier in The Avengers (2012) and by Josh Brolin in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019) through voice and motion capture, as well as the first season of What If...? (2021). The character has also appeared in various comic adaptations, including animated television series and video games.

He is mentioned in "The Parker Errand" about the Infinity Stones, which Thanos had long sought for. The event of Spider-Man teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to defeat him and the Carnage Symbiote he was bonded with (as depicted in Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! episodes "Back to the New York Grove" and "Drive my Carnage") is also mentioned in earlier episodes, such as "Road to the Legendary Universes".
  • Thanos makes a non-speaking cameo in the show's Disney+ sequel miniseries Marvel's Spider-Man: Rising Legend. Appearing in the mid-credit scene of the final episode "Rise of a Legend", Thanos is shown confronting a chained up Venom in a unknown planet, with Uatu the Watcher hinting that Thanos has plans for Venom which will threaten Earth.
  • The same version of Thanos makes his official appearance as the primary antagonist in the Disney+ TV movie Marvel's Superhero Adventures: Infinity War, voiced by Isaac C. Singleton Jr.. Following the events of Spider-Man: Rising Legend, it is shown that Thanos had captured Venom to extract his DNA, and use it to create the Klyntauri (genetic hybrids of the Chitauri and the Symbiotes) to strengthen his army.
  • Thanos makes a non-speaking appearance in the show's Disney+ sequel miniseries Marvel's All-Star Multiverse. He appears in the fourth episode "Lost Odyssey", where he is revived by his son Thane as a zombie to be part of his future plans. The zombified Thanos appears in the next episode "All the Time", on which he is sent by Thane to attack New York, and kill Greer Grant / Tiger Queen for his plan to have the Hulk go rogue; an incident which would soon turn the Hulk into Maestro. Thane's plan, however, is foiled by the Alliance heroes (joined by futuristic time travellers Miguel O'Hara / Spider-Man 2099, Renet Tilley and Silver the Hedgehog), who soon summon Maestro from the future to battle the Zombie Thanos. Maestro defeats and kills the Zombie Thanos, inadvertently erasing himself from existance.
• Thanos appears in Marvel: All New, All Different Chronicles, voiced by Michael-Leon Wooley. He appears as a regular antagonist in the three main arcs of Season 1, and as the main antagonist in the Infinity arc.

• Thanos appears as one of the first bosses in Marvel/DC Heroes Unite!, voiced by Isaac C. Singleton Jr.. In the game's story, he and Darkseid (also voiced by Singleton) are the two halves of Thanoseid, the game's overall primary antagonist and final boss.
• Thanos is the main antagonist in Marvel’s The Avenging Spider-Man, voiced by Michael-Leon Wooley.
• Thanos is a playable character in Marvel Superhero Adventures: Intergalactic Grand Prix, voiced by Alex Désert. One of the supervillains participating in the titular racing tournament hosted by the Grandmaster, Thanos owns two karts: the Infinity Pursuer (a golden race car with details of the Infinity Gauntlet) and the Sanctuary XII (a hover car resembling the Sanctuary II (as seen in the MCU films Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War) with the driver seat resembling his throne).
